I was reminded of this syndicated series that ran for three seasons from 1957 to 1959 when I saw the news of the death of Craig Hill earlier this year. “Whirlybirds” was a half-hour adventure series produced by Desilu. It was about a couple of helicopter pilots who worked for Whirlybird Service at a small airport.
Top-billed was a fine and largely unrecognized character actor, Kenneth Tobey who played Chuck Martin. Craig Hill was the second lead as P.T. Moore.
The much, much younger Me never missed an episode. However, I only remember bits and pieces and hadn’t seen it since, so I watched S.1, E5 on YouTube and proved that my memory was correct. It was a superior series. Chuck and P.T. have to deliver an iron lung to a remote mountain construction area to save the life of a young boy (no kidding). They face high winds catching up to their tail and an electrical storm up ahead. After delivering and setting up the iron lung, the power goes out so they have to fly to get an electrician then find were the power line is broken. Excellent suspense. Some very familiar ‘50s and ‘60s faces appear in supporting roles: Claude Akins, Raymond Bailey, Mort Mills, and Virginia Christine.

In Australia: First shown in Melbourne and Sydney in 1958....last shown in those cities in 1972. Note that Australian TV remained B&W until 1975, which no doubt helped ensure a long life for the series there.
Began being shown in Canberra in 1962 (the city got TV that year), last seen 1963.
I don't know when it began being shown in Wollongong, but it was last seen there in 1973.
I have a "TV Week" magazine for Adelaide from 1961 which features the show on the schedule, but I don't know when it was first shown there and when it was last shown. If you ask me, they should digitise the newspapers of Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and Brisbane and make them available for everyone, as it would be interesting to compare their TV schedules with those of other cities.
I have a 1963 "TV Week" covering several areas, which features the show on the schedule in Toowoomba, which is in Queensland. The same magazine lists it being shown in Lismore, which is in New South Wales. I have no ability to find out when it was first shown there and when it was last seen.

I loved Whirlybirds when I was growing up. It was all over TV for a few years there. Ken Tobey and Craig Hill made a great team. It always saddens me when I think of the stars of those essentially kidvid shows of the Fifties (Whirlybirds, Rin Tin-Tin, Fury. Sky King,, at al) and how little those series did for them in the long run. James (Rip Masters) Brown saw his career go nowhere. Same with Richard "Capt. Midnight" Webb. Heck, the actor who played his assistant, Icky, Sid Melton, did better). But back to Whirlybirds: it was a show for boys. Similar in this regard to Sea Hunt and Highway Patrol. Girls liked horses, thus no western was safe, but other kinds of shows were. Whirlybirds was one such.

Popular enough to come out in book form too:
