As far as I can remember, Splinter of the Mind's Eye was all there was. Then Timothy Zahn came out with his novel and it was very exciting to see new adventures with Luke/Leia/Han! As far as books are concerned, we also had Brian Daley's Han Solo trilogy and L. Niel Smith's Lando trilogy:

Oh okay. I didn't read those... it was more difficult to be aware of things like that back then. I just didn't know about them. Were they good?

Oh okay. I didn't read those... it was more difficult to be aware of things like that back then. I just didn't know about them. Were they good? It's been forever since I read them. They are odd as they all came out at the time of the OT and have a lot of different things. I recommend checking them out for curiosity's sake. The old EU kept them in canon as a show of respect, despite their very different tones.
