Here are a few movies or roles that didn't even get nominated: - 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) not getting a nomination for Best Picture. - Groundhog Day (1993) not getting any nomination. - I haven't seen Vertigo (1958) yet, but considering its praise, it's weird it wasn't even nominated for Best Picture. - Jack Nicholson not getting a nomination for his role in The Shining (1980). - Pan's Labyrinth (2006) not getting a nomination for Best Picture. - Spirited Away (2001) not getting a nomination for Best Picture. - The Dark Knight (2008) not getting a nomination for Best Picture.
Also, Pulp Fiction (1994) or The Shawshank Redemption (1994) not winning Best Picture.

When I hear the word "snub" I think of performances/films that were NOT nominated. Those in your list are more along the lines of "Oscars' biggest losers" or whatever.

Kirk Douglas, Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton never winning Best Actor Oscars, when Tom Hanks (twice), Michael Douglas and that dude from The Artist have.
Deborah Kerr, Rosalind Russell, Maureen O'Hara (never even nominated), and Tallulah Bankhead (snubbed for Lifeboat) all losing out, but Hillary Swank wins two Oscars.
Famous Oscar snub: Gloria Swanson losing for Sunset Boulevard to Judy Holliday in Born Yesterday (and toss in Bette Davis for All About Eve, while we're at it).
Famous Oscar snub: Judy Garland losing Best Actress for A Star is Born to Grace Kelly's The Country Girl.
To me, though, the BIGGEST Oscar snub is Bette Davis losing for What Ever Happened to Baby Jane to Anne Bancroft in The Miracle Worker. Though I love The Miracle Worker, Bancroft played that part dozens of times on stage. Davis had to create her character from a book and bring her to life. An amazing performance, and the one best remembered today from that year's Oscar race.

Steven Spielberg not being nominated for "Jaws," one of the most perfectly directed movies ever. There wasn't a single scene that, IMO, had a misstep.

Definitely Spielberg being snubbed for Jaws. And that Saving Private Ryan didn't win for Best Picture--but Shakespeare in Love did--well, the unfairness of it is downright galling.
Performance-wise, I'd also add Joan Fontaine's performance in Rebecca, losing to Ginger Rogers for Kitty Foyle. Fontaine was head and shoulders better than Ginger, but Ginger had broken away from Fred, so they rewarded her. It was her only nomination.
I also think Deborah Kerr was deserving of a nomination for her Miss Giddens in The Innocents.
And how could Rosalind Russell NOT have won for Auntie Mame?!

Great one! also Chaplin never receiving an Oscar for acting or directing. And Ennio Morricone not being at least nominated for at least 20 movies

The Hitchcock snub is all the more galling when you think that Clint Eastwood has two Best Director Oscars, and Warren Beatty and Robert Redford have one a piece. There's simply no justice, when it comes to the Academy Awards.

Reading some of those snubs really highlights how much of a favorites game it is and what sort of games get played to win.

There's simply no justice, when it comes to the Academy Awards. This is one reason why I don't watch the Academy Awards anymore. Sometimes I'll tune in for a short time if someone I like is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Oscar, or something like that, but most of it doesn't interest me, or it's, as you say, galling. I understand why George C. Scott declined his Oscar.

The problem with answering this question is that a lot of movies that in hindsight deserved many nominations weren't all that well-liked at the time, so they might not have been snubs then. Examples of films that are now "classics" but didn't get much praise at the time include Touch of Evil and The Searchers.
