21 SNES Classic titles + another 21 my personal favs I've rom'd at the ready for hack adds once it's proven not to brick my mini. Feel free to chime in, pile on, contribute your own, etc. whatev salad. Aladdin A-
First off, eternally compared with the Genesis version is inevitable. Sega's get became one of its halo titles. They are not the same game & I respect that rather than clones trying to match for both systems. SNES players have Capcom Disney like we did for NES & while no Disney celled animation, this one for me delivers more gaming enjoyment than pure hack & slash. Plain & simply, Aladdin is great escapism, a hallmark of any fine game. I hope to settle in & defeat it, saving my way along. (I'd like to avoid future Genesis comparisons as I go, it's been done & it's obvious) Batman Returns A-This was a classic for me, blind bought via great reviews. While I was growing out of the scrolling fighter genre, BR had f'n amazing visuals, sounds, & controls. This game for me felt like finally a home console could deliver such a genre experience greater than an arcade version. Crunching hits, beautiful music, giant characters, & an ideal degree of difficulty, this is a keeper for me hands down. Points off only because its genre core is still walk & fight, repeat.

Contra III A- F'n awesome. The overhead stuff feels a bit less accessible, & yet I can't fault in game mode 7 too much. I admire early SNES titles like this which didn't merely use mode 7 for title graphics or cut scenes. Fairly difficult game to get through, & yet if I want to blow through a Contra experience, I've got both NES games on my other mini.
Chrono Trigger A+ Masterpiece. I could see myself still going back to this decades from now. Now that I can play large screen HD, I'll devote much more time than desktop rom (which again applies to pretty much every title here). There's something hypnotic & magical about CT which not even Zelda 3 washes over me.

I had never played Chrono Trigger until about a year ago. I don't know why it completely passed me by when it first came out. But in 2016, I kept reading about this game and how it was topping lists of greatest SNES. Even outranking Link To the Past, so I knew I had to at least try it out.
So I tracked it down for the DS, and I was blown away by how good it was. If there's any game I wish I could go back in time and play as a youngster, it'd be Chrono Trigger.

I rented it as a teen when it came out & couldn't appreciate a handful of hours with a genre I'd never been into for the time. I dabbled a rom a few years back, yet I don't get into older long form video games on my desktop. Tetris, Mario Kart, some sports games, that's about it.

Donkey Kong Country A Still looks magnificent to me. There's something organic about its look & textures which ironclad it for me as a classic. I think maybe they nailed the game controls, feeling a tad looser than most platformers- the rendered graphics feel like I'm controlling a toy or stuffed animal on screen. Have to add the snow level is f'n amazing... 1 of 2 quaint times I knew the SNES was special: Zelda 3 raining on screen + DKC's snow storm. Little things like that stood out for me.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest A+ Much better level design & breathtaking music make this one a masterpiece ahead of the first. I prefer playing as the more agile Diddy (for the first one too) + Dixie is a great 1A sidekick to get through challenging areas. Maybe my favourite game to defeat, it all feels so exhilarating. Pirate ship & mining levels are ridiculously amazing. Probably in my top 3 for the SNES. Surely in my top 5-10 all time gaming.
(Shoutout for DKC 3 which is not on my list, still a very solid effort. It simply felt less refined & engaging. I'm glad it exists, most franchises were thrown to the wolves in lieu of the upcoming N64.)

I used the latest hakchi2 update to add my personal 21 titles to the existing 21 Nintendo included. I kinda freaked out when I saw them in their own folder even alphabetized - i.e. I thought something went really wrong & I'd f'd up. Their NES Classic app mixed every title together. This SNES update has the games I added in their own folder on the menu screen - once clicked the same sorting options remain + ability to upload box art etc. Needless to say, it's done, no brickage, if you have the system, dive in. I like beginning to personalize my system now, with high score baselines (racing games) & stage saves.

Earthbound A There's so much goodness in this game, & yet I'm glad I didn't dabble it as a non-RPGing kid & toss it off. There's something welcoming & accessible about the whole charade, it's plain & simply great design & execution = fun.
Final Fantasy III A+ Apex FF for me. I can't believe how spoiled the SNES is for RPG epicness. FFIII is everything, the kitchen sink, & everyone else's kitchen sink just because. I could see myself going back to this still decades from now.

F-Zero A+ I think I played it first before SMW back in the day, & I logged hours ever since. Love its sense of speed, clean gameplay, awesome soundtrack, & ideal degree of difficulty. Surely my fav racing game of all time.
Kirby's Dream Course B Haven't played too much of this one & not much jumped out at me when I did. I guess since Nintendo included it for the mini, there must be potential for more fun with more time.

It's too bad they did not include actraiser. Or street fighter 2. I did like contra 3 w;hen it was new, I don't think this game has aged well, for me .

Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run A- Everything about it is top notch. My fav Rare rendered graphics this side of DKC - there's a true richness to its palette. Very nice sights & sounds, tight gameplay, with fluid pitching & batting. Stands the test of time for me. (KGJ presents MLB was too cartoony for me back in the day... I've already RBI Baseball + Baseball Stars so that game was never unique enough for me.)
Kirby Super Star B+ I'm not sure Nintendo gets enough credit for the Kirby character. This is another fun round of Kirby, with gameplay varied enough to feel both creative & familiar. (The classic mini systems are my first exposure to Kirby games).

Madden NFL '94 A- Personal bias, I played & loved this for years. More very nice SNES sights & sounds, smooth visuals for its era. 80 teams in all to choose from ftw. EA did a great job with all the player ratings for each team. (I have Madden 08 & they couldn't even use historic player numbers let alone their physical characteristics.) The actual game upon release included a mini poster with all the teams' player ratings... still can't find online fml.
Mortal Kombat II A- Great nostalgia, I couldn't not include it for my own system. MK hasn't aged as finely as SFII, & yet this game once I get going feels tight in a good way. Scorpion & Sub-Zero ftw. I've completely forgotten pretty much every special move, need to do homework. The music is awesome.

DKC2 is technically better, but the later levels are so difficult that DKC is still my "go to" when I want to play this series. All three games are good.

Mickey's Magical Quest B+ I know that's not the official title, meh it's what most ppl refer to it as. Very good Capcom Disney platformer in the DuckTales lane - fairly easy challenge offset by fantastic graphics & music. Lot's of fun for casual entertaining fare.
Mega Man X A- This is a very cool game, flat out. I'll need to devote myself to get further than I ever have. Doesn't exactly look & feel like MM NES, & yet if it did, what'd be the point? Nice power ups for fun gaming. The colour palette is superb, detail was not mailed in at all.

NBA Jam Tournament Edition A Superb arcade bball. I usually play with all the options on the table including the high scoring hot spots. Classic roster combos make this nostalgic bliss. Probably the most partying atmosphere a sports title has ever achieved. Orlando for me now... Penny, Horace, & Anderson - 3 bigs, 2 guys who can shoot from the arc. MKD, MCA, ADR, to play as the Beastie Boys ftw.
NBA Live '96 A- This was my go to back in the day & it remains awesome. Fast gameplay, deep roster set ups, varied customization options. The 'hidden' HOF player models were always welcome for the likes of Jordan, Chamberlain, Johnson, & Bird. One of my fav gaming intro sequences ever.

NHL '94 A+Brilliance. I'm a bit speechless because any game that I logged months/years at back in the day & still feels so fresh has to be a masterpiece. I will say that I love the SNES' unique player design here - it's a lot more meticulous than the standard NHL look & feel - stickwork & puck handling is on another level with its intricately tuned play. I used to own the era's final installment NHL '98 & even that felt compromised compared to '94. Doesn't hurt that its Leafs team (Gilmour, Potvin, Clark, etc) was one for the ages, & that so many HOF greats were in their prime to revisit here (Lemieux, Yzerman, Roy, etc). I ran into this the other day... readonlymemory.vg/john-madden-hockey/ & how the creators executed this ideal hockey video gaming experience. Super Bomberman 2 B+Since I played the first into the ground back in the day, I hack added this one for newness. Very solid game, nice single player experience. Always fun for casual semi-mindless gaming.

Super Castlevania IV A This may seem weird, yet I've always preferred NES CV & CVIII to this mostly because of their progressive difficulties + CVIV's dna of showcasing the Super Nintendo's capabilities masking some challenge. Make no mistake, this game is f'n amazing, I simply have more affection for the formers. Having said all that, I recently dove back in & blew through the opening stage. I really like that this chapter plays like a semi greatest hits of its NES era, & the SNES upgrades act like eye candy & unique gameplay for the franchise. I'd slot this third behind III & I, yet it's close.
Sim City A+ What can I say, for me this game is pretty much all I want in the genre. Future installments added more layered & expansive gameplay, alas for me that took away the pure joy aspect. Sim City 4 I jumped at for PC & yet when it boiled down to having to babysit so many aspects to succeed, I lost interest. Sim City as it was, & esp on SNES with its quaint blocky graphics & whatnot, was akin to playing childhood Hot Wheels or probably more accurately Micro Machines city sets, with progress & development strategies. It's not an overly challenging test once you get its rhythm down, & I love early on beginning to actually care about what I'm building & how it's all progressing. My only minuscule flaw is while I've dabbled with the rom on my PC a few years ago, that ability to minimize & allow the game time to pass in background was a plus... back on the mini now I'll not be able to do, though I suppose I could flip my 'channels' & watch tv while my city grows with age in the background lols.

Street Fighter II Turbo A+ Flat out masterpiece, must be in my top 3 SNES titles. I've dabbled it via roms ever since the 90's & it's simply ageless. I laughed when I was at a party years ago playing SFIV & basically took over because of my SFII ability. Plays great, looks great, sounds great, excellent gaming balance, & still as challenging as you make it via 1-10 difficulty option &/or speed rating. With those 2 criteria, it truly is deeper than it shows.
Star Fox B+ I owned it back in the day & became pretty good at it, so I know it has fairly high highs with any mundane lows it shows. I hadn't played in 15+ yrs last week, remarkable to me how fast the gameplay feels. Shooters aren't my genre, my NES Classic w/hacks has enough for my fix if I need. Some of these levels are really well crafted & pretty pulsating as your ship is ever flying forwards, unable to avoid what's coming but to battle &/or dodge head on. That aspect is underrated I think, with the '3D' polygonal enemies & obstacles nearing your face. Excellent music btw.

I just noticed my alpha order here is botched - listing from my pdf games manuals files list which I used their initials. Whatevsalad...
Star Fox 2 n/a I've played about 3 minutes of it, incomplete reaction. I can tell you it is a strange sensation to be playing a new SNES game in the year 2017.
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts B A technical marvel, one of the first games back in the day my friends & I rented, really showed off the SNES' capabilities. The music is quite achievement for such an early release. Alas, this franchise does nothing for me, I've never achieved much with it. I have read lately that it's better to approach it as a timing puzzler than a straight platformer, I suppose I'll try again one day down the road.

Around 10 years ago I beat Super Ghouls n Ghosts after about a week of dedicated playing. The worst part is you have to go through the game twice to reach the final boss and the real ending. I can't beat it now. Ghosts n Goblins on the NES is much harder, IMO.
