A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Oh OK thanks so much rateater . Surprisingly I don't remember that scary scene but then again I haven't watched this classic film in a long time either . I will have to look out for this one again on TV very soon ( and the whole film series was really good also ) .

The pale, gaunt appearance of the woman dressed in black in the distance just standing there. Not moving, for everyone to see as those sunken red eyes stare right back at you sends shivers down my spine. Great use of contrast and space in alienating the viewer. It's so simple, yet that's the strength of crafting atmosphere, without the need to over do it with any sort of gimmicks. Those subtle moments of stillness are genuinely unsettling. But this time, up close and personal. This one rocked me, due the quiet nature of the film's build-up and the use of the spirit suddenly becomes influentially demonic. It's one of those scares that's so well timed, you just don't see it coming and when it does it's over in a flash. It's almost out of character, showing she's much more of a threat than some bystander.

Lake Mungo. 2008. If you’ve seen it you know the scene. Girl comes face to face with her future corpse. A slow far away phone camera footage slowly gets closer and closer. Great little film. So unsettling, and the final shot is a hard one to forget.

The House by the Cemetery (1981). Just an unsettling image.

A more recent one for me was the demon nun from The Conjuring 2, specifically this scene: Now I hear she's getting her own spinoff movie, The Nun...I may never sleep again! The nun is honestly the scariest thing in recent horror. I cant wait for the spin off.

ending of Paranormal Activity 3 when he wakes up in the middle of the night in a home in which he's unfamiliar with it's surroundings - is missing his wife and kids - and runs into this:

ending of 'the last exorcism'. the whole movie you figured these 'towns folk' were good with the protagonists best intentions - only to find out they were a cult. just like PA3 - above - the only things that typically 'scare me' in life and make me feel uneasy are movies about cults/the devil.

I've just been reminded on the Classics Board of this scene from the original Poltergeist (1982). I used to rewatch the entire movie on cable TV just to see this part again as a kid.

I actually thought that I'd seen everything that could possibly phase me in a horror movie. I've watched many creative/gory deaths in horror movies, but one particular moment in the movie 'Julia's Eyes' (which I would strongly recommend, it really surprised me!) almost had me look away from the screen. I actually felt physically uncomfortable viewing it, so in that sense the movie really achieved it's goal. I've loved horror movies since my mid teens, seen 100's if not 1000's, but this disturbed me, perhaps it's because I wear glasses I don't know. I couldn't find an image of the exact moment, but I did find a gif, so I'll link to it below. Perhaps when viewed out of context, it isn't as powerful, and maybe I've gotten soft since my teens, but anyway it's below... The gif also seems sped-up, I think it's much slower in the movie. Warning: If you don't like needles or (fictional) gore, don't view this, it's graphic. images.gr-assets.com/hostedimages/1446162475ra/16755564.gif

I so agree here folks I also have watched A LOT of gory horror flicks
over the years too and think this is a disturbing nasty gross scene ( of course only laughing at it too because it takes the disturbing numbness feeling away
and I pretend it's a retractable prop needle too ) .
Also for me in a film like this it would definitely churn my stomach
especially if the scene did last more than a minute or two .
**Also a warning here if viewing skinned people
churn your stomach don't click on the blue movie title link . **

That’s actually form Hellbound: Hellraiser II but that is pretty disturbing as well.
