Patrick Stewart may have been a Brit, but Captain Picard wasn't!
In fact I don't know that we've ever seen a British Starship Captain. I want one!

I'd be perfectly happy to have an American play Doctor Who.
Star Trek may be American, the Federation is not.

No, the Federation is not American. It's like the ending to the DS9 Episode "Take Me Out To The Holosuite" DAX: " Human? Did I forget to wear my spots today?" Trills, Betazoids, Bolians, Vulcans, Andorians... All that intelligence, and @jamesavalon still don't know what a "Who-mawn" looks like... Only Humans can possibly be American.

Its going to be a disaaster. Nobody will want to see an unknown African american female as the lead- Not even if it was Halle Berry.
They had a hard enough time with Avery Brooks- which was a big turn off in DS( but he was such a phenomenal actor that he sold every scene he was in. DS9 had great eps and much of the storylines but even that series needed a galactic war to make it to serason 7.
Scott Bakula couldnt even keep this TV franchise from going into the toilet. Last thing they need is a token black LT Commander on the front seat. This isnt the direction I would go. I would go back to Treks roots first.

But making the lead not the Captain is ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned Jason Isaacs is the star of the show, and I don't give a crap if he's only in it for five minutes per season.

I would like to see another successful Trek series but this one does not look promising.

Looks awful. Someone needs to scrap the JJ timeline and push the series forward again.

Discovery is supposed to be in the normal series, not the JJ verse.
But rumour has it they've screwed that up by sticking some weird multiverse into it. Sounds like the awful "temporal cold war" all over again.
