Which is the better film?
I am going to say "Bravheart" is the better overall film.
However, I will say I re-watch "Gladiator" more. It's just easier to get through in one sitting. Plus the dialogue is so bad ass.

Braveheart all the way. Who would win in a fight? Wallace or Maximus? I would say Maximus with his Roman soldier tactics. Although Wallace would have guerilla warfare tactics on his side.

Yeah, with his SPQR training, and then his gladiator ludus training with Proximo. He's too well trained. Now, in a battle... Wallace had great ways to usurp the larger English army, including the spears to the horseman tactics.

I definitely re-watch Gladiator more often than I do with Braveheart, although I hold both to be excellent films. They have some historical inaccuracies, but I think they are forgivable for the most part, and I am very much interested in history. However, Gladiator seems to be the favorite for me, as I'm more interested in ancient Roman history than medieval Scotland and England. I think Maximus would win in a duel against William Wallace, although not if he was wounded before the fight, even though he defeated Emperor Commodus (a man weaker than Wallace).

I'll go with Braveheart. Always.
As far as Gladiator is concerned, I liked Crowe's performance. Phoenix was very good as well despite being given some borderline laughable lines to work with. He managed to overcome the over-the-topness of his character by breathing some life into the creature he portrayed.

I have both films once each, for me Braveheart has a little more "heart" to it, pardon the pun. They are both well done films.
In regards to the other discussion as to who would win in combat, Maximus would win in a one to one and in Army vs Army as he is the professional soldier with the full time professional army whereas Wallace has only farmers. Yes, I know he beat the English, but Maximus seems even more brutal.

BRAVEHEART - 5/10 (devolves into an insufferable Gibson vanity project) GLADIATOR - 8/10

Same. Braveheart arguably has the better story and acting but Gladiator is so damned entertaining in that "tough guys" manner.

I enjoyed Gladiator more.
Braveheart is over-rated in my opinion. Almost every film Gibson has directed since then is better....

Mel Gibson was originally up for the role of Maximus.
It would have been interesting to see how Gibson would have played the character as opposed to Crowe.

Both suck from a historical POV.
