...an Aquaman who says, "My Man!" and "I dig it?"
Seems the king of the deep is getting a personality upgrade in the vein of Tony Stark c. 2008.
I'm down. Hee hee hee...

Overcompensation. They're way too aware of how the character was a bit of joke, so they're trying to make him a real badass with cool guy dialogue.
I mean, why would an ancient being use modern slang? It's kind of absurd, honestly.

I assumed he was like an Ocean Thor.

I think this version he's half human half atlantean but he was raised on land, so he's like the rest of the modern characters in he talks like anyone could, he's not even king at this point in his story, so yeah not ocean thor, though different interpretations differ obviously.
I don't think he's been born and raised atlantean for a while now in the comics, as both of the live action versions that popped up in the 00's had him being normal just with powers and needing to learn who he was.

Neat. Sounds more interesting than what I thought he was.

Neat. Sounds more interesting than what I thought he was. That's kind of the sad thing about the character in most peoples perception of him is of the character as he was decades ago because that's when he got the most mainstream showcase, where as Batman & Superman even Wonder Woman thanks to JL, JLU & the DC animated films have had the chance to rebound from their campier days.
I mean think how bad peoples perception of Robin would be if Batman 66 is all we had to go by...yikes.

I feel like they've secretly hidden Lobo in the guise of Aquaman.

Good point. I'm actually looking forward to seeing a trailer for the Aquaman movie. I'm hoping it's a surprise hit.

Correct. His human father Thomas Curry will appear in the movie, played by Temuera Morrison. Hopefully he has more screen time than in Green Lantern (2011).

I mean, why would an ancient being use modern slang? It's kind of absurd, honestly. But he's NOT an ancient being. The Amazons are immortal, not Atlanteans. And Arthur Curry was born and raised on land.
Another example of misconceptions they're trying to course correct with this version.

I know. I was corrected above by someone else too. My mistake. I just assumed he was like an underwater WW but I know now that he isn't.

Yeah, unfortunately the most remembered version of this particular character, for those of us who are not comic book fans, is Super Friends which is corny. But in the comics he has gone through quite a lot of changes and is pretty bad ass. I honestly do think that this casting of Momoa and change to more uppity attitude is intended to establish a new persona and erase that past. Peace, Ackbar! Don't worry, JL is NOT a TRAP!
