Usually the fish and chip shops. But then some people disagree about what is French Fries. I like the thicker-cut chips.

...there is a top rated BBQ joint in Chicago called Smoque. They serve twice fried French fries that are the very best I have ever had. You can make a meal on one order of these babies...!!!
There is also a place in downtown Chicago's French Market that also serves twice fried Belgium style fries. And they offer 26 different dipping sauces. I've tried their peanut sauce dip and it was truly memorable.
There is something about that twice frying that makes all the difference.

Best I've had were in the rabbit poutine at Le Lapin Saute in Quebec City.

I like Nathan's fries the best. Those are great. You don't even need ketchup on those. Just a little bit of salt.

McDonald's. But I prefer burgers from other fast food establishments.

For a stand-alone I have no idea. For a chain Five Guys easily. Natural-cut/fresh-cut is ALWAYS better than frozen. ALWAYS BETTER than McDonald's (who does have the BEST frozen fries).

Checkers and Red Robin. I like the ones from Burger King too. More fluffier than the ones from McDonald's.

Maybe the quality of fries varies from area to area. Where I live, the fries at Five Guys are dreadful. They're limp and soggy at all the Five Guys near me. I love Five Guys burgers, but generally skip their fries.

I love cajun style food and those fries are great. I can't speak about the five guys place because this is the first I"m hearing of it, but I would go there to try the fries.
