PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 1: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL
7/10
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 2: DEAD MAN'S CHEST
6/10
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 3: AT WORLD'S END
5/10
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 4: ON STRANGER TIDES
3/10
The plot in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 5: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES isn't as boring as the one in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 4: ON STRANGER TIDES nor as convoluted as the one in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN PART 3: AT WORLD'S END... but it still feels like more of the same. Almost nothing interesting happens. The franchise's double entendre in general was always subtle enough, which is why even kids were fans. Even if there was a joke that crossed the line, it would only happen once in each movie. Here, most of the double entendre is too obvious. It's not even clever. The violence was also never too graphic. Here, CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW is sent to the guillotine and he sees decapitated heads. Well, at least this is followed by one of the most fun moments of the entire franchise: The guillotine spins while JACK is trapped under it. It was filmed in a very creative way. I understand that the makers wanted CAPTAIN ARMANDO SALAZAR to have something visually unique, just like DAVY JONES. How did we go from a monstrous squid head to hair that moves as it if was under water?! SALAZAR isn't threatening because it makes the viewer think of mermaids!

Seeing his real face (when the curse is broken) would've had more impact if we hadn't seen it before in a flashback. Actually, that flashback also had a creepy rejuvenated Johnny Depp.
The scene should've been cut from the movie! If these movies really must have a romance even if the plot doesn't need one, fine... but don't create clones of WILL TURNER & ELIZABETH SWANN. It didn't work with PHILIP SWIFT & SYRENA and it's only tolerable here with HENRY TURNER (WILL & ELIZABETH's son) & CARINA SMITH because Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scoledario have some chemistry. At the end, he tries to kiss her, but she slaps him and says "I was just checking if you weren't still a ghost" (a reference to an earlier scene). I'm supposed to find a hint of domestic abuse charming only because she wanted to be playful?! Intentions don't matter! You might be rolling your eyes, but ask yourselves "How would I react to the scene if he had done it to her?" Right after this, we see that WILL's curse has been broken, which ruins the emotional impact of the ending of the 3rd installment. Speaking of, CAPTAIN HECTOR BARBOSSA dies and it's supposed to have emotional impact, but everything is too rushed. I'm not just talking about the moment in which it happens. He's forgotten during the remaining minutes of the movie.
