What's the better 'The Gift'? The Gift (2015): The Gift (2000):

The Gift (2000) is an okay film, but it's more remembered for Katie Holmes topless than anything else. The 2015 one looked like a tired stalker movie that got dusted off from the 90s, but it ended up feeling fresh and even clever. The only thing actually tired about it was the title. It kind of went under the radar, but it deserves the same accolades as Get Out, I think.

Ribisi was also pretty good in it. Now there's a disappointing career.

Now there's a disappointing career. look at that great cast. love the movie. 9/10 in my eyes. ribisi, kinnear, reeves, holmes, blanchett, swank - great musical score, great atmosphere 'The Gift' (2015) was very well done. My problem with it was - just when you started hating Jason Bateman - I kind of wanted it to end that Joel Edgerton was a good guy all along (i get the torture in life the poor guy went thru - but IMO was kind of rooting for him to not be so vindictive and vengeful) 2 great movies.

I liked that it kept you wondering who to root for until the end. And the ending is ambiguous enough that Gordo might not be completely evil. Depends on whether he actually did something to Rebecca Hall's character while she was unconscious, which is left up to the audience. But yeah, Bateman was such a d*** in this movie. Speaking of great performances.

Speaking of great performances. i definitely feel for the character of 'Gordo' 2/3 of the movie after you first though he was just a psychopath. just for my particular taste - would have been a better ending if it showed Bateman was a d*ck and Gordo had a decent heart. nice twist. great movie. greatly enjoyed it - but as i watched Gordo in that monkey mask on tape - to see what great lengths he went to get revenge (and i get he's mind f*cking Bateman and the audience as well - i don't think the character did anything) - it kind of made me look at it as - OK - well - you're both evil - as opposed to Gordo was the victim - if that makes any sense at all. and who can really blame Gordo to be honest (i get the mentality of an eye for an eye) - real victim in all of this was Bateman's wife.

Both movies are completely different in regards to theme and plot. How can they be compared?

You are right, so in that case we can also compare 'crash 1996' and 'crash 2004'? But then you will say that they're not horror films.
However in regards to 'the gift' movies. I couldn't give an opinion as I haven't seen the 2000 movie. But I have seen the indian copy version.
Wasn't it too early in katie holme's career to play a cheating women? She was only 20 or 21 at that time
