I keep wanting this show to bring back Bjorn's first wife, always found strange how she up and left. Yes, I would very much like to see Þorunn return, too. I didn't think her scar was bad enough to warrant her just running off like that, never to return. If anything, it makes her look like a badass shieldmaiden who's proven herself in battle.

I usually found this show pretty hit and miss in the previous seasons, but this has been a pretty cool season so far.

And here's a sneak peek from episode 6: Heheh, the most interesting to me in that^ clip was seeing Adam Copeland/Edge and Kris Holden-Reid in the same scene. Haven't seen them in anything since Haven and Lost Girl finished, so it'll be fun seeing them in the Vikings universe. Just got the first episode with Dwight from Haven and Dyson from Lost Girl this week...Dwyson should not have gone against Lagertha’s wishes to follow Floki off to the land which I imagine he’ll soon dub ‘Flokiland’. I agree with you both, I too would like to see Þórunn return and didn't think her scar was that bad really. I usually found this show pretty hit and miss in the previous seasons, but this has been a pretty cool season so far.I'm the opposite. I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons (there was very little I didn't like about them), but then about halfway through Season 3 I found I wasn't as enthused as I once was (the Paris characters held no interest for me). Ragnar's storyline with his drug dealer in the first half of Season 4 was probably the low point of the series for me, but thankfully things picked up in the second half. I'm still undecided on Season 5 so far. I personally wish there was more Lagertha and less Ivar.

Can someome tell me the sense of Björn's trip except for some human spare ribs? The exotic woman? The "dramatic" Cliffhanger? To have something to do for Björn till he is needed?
Well, he seems to return and thus bring a lot of man power with him. Maybe even Floki returns - or those who follwed him with the idea what a great ruler Legartha actually is: not a trickster like Flocki, but one who thinks in the long term => conversation between the young woman and the warrior which was also overheard but other major warrior not without interest.
So Harald and Ivar might not even be the ones who are suprised, but the also meet a far larger force. Maybe this is how Ivar vasnishes from the show, and Ubbe and Guthrum (=> The Jarls of Sweden will also join Lagertha through Guthrum) take over the lead of the great Heathen army as know by the historical records.
Nice to see the loyalty of Astrid.
As for this Bishop and Halfdan...maybe they are the two deciding factors: will Harald really meet his brother in battle as once Ragnar and Rollo, and will it emotionally cripple the losing one? And will the Bishop really stand to his word, or will he the one who make the deadly strike against Ivar?
Well, I continue to remain in the camp Lagertha/Ubbe/Björn and I'm positive about the outcome for them.

Well that was a rushed episode. Bjorn is one minute in Africa and is now heading back to Kattegat? What a waste.

I was glad that Lagertha and Floki shared a last scene together (as who knows if they'll both be alive long enough to ever cross paths again). She's a pretty fair ruler of Kattegat (which, in the early seasons of the show, I always thought sounded like 'Catgut'), I think. She was betrayed, but didn't make an enemy out of Floki (at least not yet), which is good. I wish we could've seen more of the two of them interacting one on one before Floki left for Flokiland.
She might be perceived as 'weak' in the eyes of Margrethe...but, honestly, Margrethe can die anytime now. I personally find her rather annoying, and I'm only sorry that Lagertha has spared her so many times.
That guy who Bishop Heahmund killed (which apparently indicated to Ivar he was going to fight for him) was a bit over-the-top, I thought. I'm glad JRM's character offed him.

So Björn was right and out-smarted Ivar @ land or sea attack Floki's story is utterly boring and all this pseudo-religion stuff annoys me. Same goes for the Bishop and his bible talks. I guess one must be mentally disturbed like Ivar to find it attracting/amusing. Ubbe is too in-active: either he is really about to take the crown, or he should bring this former slave to silence. I guess Magarethe will sooner or later bite the dust. Torvi is already taking over her place as Ubbe's favourite. Maybe he is growing bored and annoyed about her bad mouthing and thirst for more power. I hope he will study Lagertha's style and maybe the warfare style of Björn before he takes over the command of the Great Heathen army along with Guthrum. Ubbe - and even more so Guthrum- are portrayed in "The last Kingdom" as very calm, patient and rational commanders. I especially like the calm but also open-minded attitude of Guthrum. Ivar is only mentioned in this show...but since Ubbe sails for Irland to avange his death, they might have never fallen out. And "The last Kingdom" is more thruthful to te actual historical records (of course also with a lot of artistic freedoms), but sill far closer than Vikings. By now: The last Kingdom > Vikings

Björn anticipated every move of Ivar and it would be no surprise, to me anyway, if Ivar returns to his fleet only to see it burn.*
His older half-brother had the high ground, assumed correctly that Ivar would keep men back to protect the fleet, and, last but not least, a possible flank maneveur. To sum it it up: every single one of his counter meassures were spot on.
On the other hand Ivar did shit - pardon my French here. When they seemed to reach an agreement I was like: No Lagertha! Don't be that stupid to believe him...but instead of a trick or lie, like Cercei in GoT, there was nothing arranged or planned, and it seems (I can't imagine how he could still have something in his sleeve) that Ivar went entirely without plan into battle.
Maybe his only goal was to get rid of King Harald...but even this failed. And losing his Christian warrior was also not intended if I read his reaction corectly. The warrior in his army - and they follwed him only because his tactics brought them victory - have witness how he failed King Harald and there brothers in arm since many men who died while fighting side a side with Harald had been Ivar's men. This and the defeat will make "his" men think who is actually Ragnar's heir: Björn or Ivar. Ivar's army was raised by Björn (and his brothers) to avenge Ragnar. At that time he had no reputation that would make a single warrior follow him. And now he lost to Björn - soundly.
Björn is Ragnar's first bon, he led the Greath Heathen army to victory, and now he beat Ivar...and it was, again, a sound defeat, and unlike Ivar he was ringing his sword with the enemy. He bled with his men while Ivar was "listening" to the battle. This is so untrue to the ideas of the Viking culture that his men won't follow him for much longer imho. You don't hide from and battle and listen to its outcome only in order to survive.
But why was Björn suddenly such a brilliant strategist (I like it and I always liked him albeit he got often a bad rap...and more so I love Lagertha. And she was bad ass: a true Queen), and Ivar is making now such poor decisions... He might be a cynic and giving a damn about the gods and their culture, but his men do. And without his men he is nothing.
As it seems he hadn't made any plans, moves, or tactics before the battle actually began. Again: the only thing I can make out of this, is that he tried to get rid of King Harald...but Harald survived and he will certainly learn how Ivar was hiding, listening and holding back his men when the horn was blown. Even Astrid wanted to assist Harald (most likely to use this choas to switch the sides but the narrative of Harald will be more like: my loyal and brave wife).
This other Ragnar brother - I don't care how he is written or called - was so out-matched...all he could do was run. And it was so well prepared that I think that Lagertha and Björn are the ones who have still something in their sleeves. A small troop of scouts might be enough to set the fleet aflame, and the entire amry of Harald and Ivar had left the fleet for the land battle. And why is he still so loyal to Ivar who openly humilitated him by wuffing at him when he claimed he was following Ubbe like a dog. Ubbe never humiliated him, and he actually was drinking the cup.
A massive win for camp Lagertha - I have no ideas how Ivar can recover from this defeat. Especially concerning his cowardish behaviour - in the eyes of the Viking culture - that will lose him a lot of trust of his men; Harald must become furious when he learns how he was betrayed by Ivar. Yes: I would call is treason.
*according to the historical record Ivar's trace went missing in Ireland. Maybe he will leave Norway and England for good after this defeat.
Futhermore, Kattegatt (=> it's a Danish region, Hedeby is even modern Germany today) has never belonged to the kingdom of the historical figure of Harald Finehair. sp?
Ubbe and Guthrum will become the leaders of the Greath Heathen army which will conquer all kingdoms in England but one: the Danelaw
Björn will travel South again.

All I can say after watching the battle episode is...go Team Lagertha! I agree that Ivar really didn't do anything useful. He likes to think of himself as someone who others should fear...but if his army had any sense, they'd see that he just manipulates everyone to sacrifice themselves for him and then sits back and does nothing. Meanwhile, Lagertha, Björn, Ubbe and her army were all in the thick of it, fighting/kicking major butt. I wondered why, at the start of the episode, Ivar had reverted to slithering his way around the place when he'd been using his handy leg braces so much lately. Margrethe is such a pointless – and exceedingly annoying – character. Whenever they cut to her, just her expression annoys the heck out of me, and then we got her pointless singing to the child scene. What a waste of screentime. All the stuff going on in Flokiland doesn’t really interest me at this stage. And Floki himself was kind of lousy, just sitting there as everyone else did the hard work. I can understand those who are against him. I see hetried to replicate Lagertha’s bird-on-the-shoulder look...but it just wasn’t working for him like it did for her. Getting back to the battle...every time Lagertha got close to Ivar or turned her back to him, I got worried he was going to kill (or at least harm) her. I fully expected some sudden out-of-nowhere stabbing or whatever. This made for very tension-filled scenes for me when watching. The battle itself featured quite a few quite nasty moments – a shield maiden being bludgeoned to death on the back with a shield (a case of irony there?), gouged out eyes, some dude’s arm dangling and someone getting a hammer to the forehead were the ones that stuck out to me the most. I was worried for Lagertha again when she got close to Bishop Heahmund and I thought he was going to stab her or something when she rolled him over. I’m glad that didn’t happen...but I still think her letting him live might cost her (maybe his being a Christian reminds her of Athelstan...but he’s nothing like Athelstan, Lagertha, don’t make that mistake!). When she wondered why he was saved, all I could think was, “His plot armour’s too strong – that’s why!”. I think I’m going to be fretting about Lagertha’s safety until the season’s over. I just hope that what she said to Ivar in this episode doesn't come back to bite her.

Margrethe is indeed excruciatingly annoying. I really hope she ends up dead before the season's over. Her singing scene I actually found rather creepy. I couldn't help but think 'Oh, that bitch is SO gonna kill those kids as revenge for Ubbe smooching Torvi'.

Last night's episode was good. The introduction of the Frankish troops and the change of leadership in England are major developments. Lagertha's relationship with Hehmund is pretty big too.

Last night's episode was good. The introduction of the Frankish troops and the change of leadership in England are major developments. Lagertha's relationship with Hehmund is pretty big too. I hted it. This show is now pruely fictional, an alternative timeline that has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with anything that happened during the time of Alfred the Great and Danelaw. I guess Ivar will become now the emporer of the second holy Roman Empire of Norwegian nation after aliens secured him teh final victory over the Ming dynasty of China. But I guess my guesses are a bit to conservative for Hirst...what a carpfest. But at least it is now clear that Ivar simply lost the battle and that there was no great master plan behind the curtain. He just fucked up. And now his little Wuff Wuff has saved the day with this deus e machina Franks, but without Rollo. It would be hard to let him be present and side Ivar against Björn while remaining in character and plausible...oh fuck it. The show is now on the route like shows a la Lost or Battlestar Galatica were in their final days, albeit these shows had no historical framework to piss on.
