Planet of the Apes 1968 is the only one I voted for, because I think it is one of the masterpieces of SF film.
I didn't really care for the sequels. I didn't like the Burton effort at ALL, maybe my least favorite. And, even though they are well made, I watch and almost instantly forget the newer Ape movies. They simply don't resonate. Nothing in them, despite the great CGI, feels real.
I have never seen the tv series.

I liked Beneath as goofy sci-fi, and I mildly liked Escape, but I absolutely agree with you that none of the sequels even approaches the brilliance of the original. Even in its silliest moments, it’s superb and tons of fun. I also couldn’t stand the Burton remake. I thought Rise was OK but, as you say, forgettable. I was really surprised by the critical reaction to the second of the new series, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: I thought it was absolutely awful, yet it got incredible reviews! I haven’t seen War.

What didn't you like about Dawn? I personally loved it.

How does Spaceballs and Time of the Apes get on the list and Stop the Planet of the Apes. I Want to Get Off! does not?
