Do you have some favorite characters that you would really like to have an adventure with or simply know in real life.
Perhaps my all-time favorite is Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, classic fantasy characters written by Fritz Lieber.
Also want to go to Barsoom and explore Edgar Rice Burrough's fictional Mars with John Carter.
Although I really enjoy the Lord of the Rings, oddly wouldn't want to live there, (unless I was apprenticed to Gandalf) found Sword of Shannara was the one that I wanted most to enter into.
Would like to explore Larry Nivens 'Ringworld'.

Clarisse McClellan from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 Cornelia Van Gorder from Mary Roberts Rinehart's The Bat Roald Dahl's Matilda Interesting list, it will be fun to look up some of these characters that I don't know much about, everyone views life so differently. There is a film of 'The Bat' 1959 starring Vincent Price and Agnes Moorehead.

Somehow, no. Because the only novels I can push myself into reading talk about two people getting together. And I would not spoil it for them.
Science fiction, on the other hand, opens windows on universes so real one could feel attracted to exploring them.

I would love to have lunch with Hercule Poirot, and afternoon tea with Miss Marple. they would both be fascinating to talk to. Poirot could tell me about the cases he has solved, and Miss Marple would regale me with what was going on in the village.
And I would love to go for a row on the river with J, harris, aand George (and Montmorency of course) from Three Men In A Boat.

I found Orr to be an absolute riot. The 'reveal' toward the end made me so happy.

I want to meet Sidney Carton at his favorite tavern.
Frodo Baggins at home in Hobbiton. Hobbits set out a great table.
I would like to smoke a pipe of "ship's" and shoot up cocaine (a 7 percent solution) with Sherlock Holmes.
My greatest thrill would be to take a spin in the TARDIS with The Doctor (yes, he is in books, too).

Sherlock Holmes (and Dr. Watson to balance him out) and some of the other adventure heroes of my youth: the Count of Monte Cristo, D'Artagnan, Robin Hood, Maid Marion, and the Merry Men, Sir Lancelot and Guinevere, Phileas Fogg, Captain Nemo, Allan Quatermain, Long John Silver, Peter Pan. Ah, and Jay Gatsby, of course! How could I forget him?

I always thought that the Tin Woodman would be a cool character to hang out with as a kid. This metal, indestructible guy with an axe, that doesn't hesitate the chop the crap out of any creature that gets in the way of his friends. And he really does care about people, deep down inside, despite the fact that he lost his internal organs long ago, thanks to the Wicked Witch who ruled the Munchkin Country.
Still one of my favorite literary characters of all time.

Those are some great lists, amazing how different people see things, still looking up a few of them up. koskiewicz had me googling for awhile here. Tarzan? Oh,,,,I get it. Robin Hood, if I had to place myself in that time, that would be an excellent choice. Philip Marlowe another great character to open a Detective agency with. I wonder if Gandalf would make me sweep the floor for about 50 years and then only teach me sock-washing spells? what do you mean this is not a fairytale world? but the brochure said!

I certainly agree about Philip Marlowe. He's a grand choice.
