Breaking away (Ha!), from Marvel and DC for a moment, with the recent release of a new M. Night film, Unbreakable comes to mind. While Marvel and DC have made attempts to stay somewhat grounded in reality, I would call Unbreakable ground level, period. I recall man weren't impressed with the film initially and it did only okay at the box office, but it had grown a very loyal fanbase over the years for being an interesting take on the concept of the superhero. I myself quite enjoy the film and enjoy Dunn's journey to discovering he's a little more than ordinary. Samuel L. Jackson, a long time nerd and presence in many similarly themed project, is great as Mr. Glass and the reveal about his character at the end was well very built up.
So, who would like to see a sequel?

I know, right? Holding my tongue is killing me at this point, but it shouldn't be long before enough people have seen it to talk about it out in the open.

i'm not a guy who talks during films, but if I didn't just say gleefully yell "UNBREAKABLE!" and have the stupidest smile on my face. idk man, you might be waiting until post bluray and/or streaming. I mean one day I said Han died in episode 7 and it had been months since it was out and someone got upset, and by months I mean it must have been April.

I typically don't like revealing the twist of a film too early on during its initial theater run. Someone spoiled the Sixth Sense twist for me and I was freaking pissed. So I go out of my way not to do the same thing to other people.

so his outline is exploring the life of Dunn over those 16 years. I wonder if he will have a Hannibal Lector relationship with Mr. Glass, friendlier of course, to seek advice against The Horde.

That sounds feasible. It would be interesting to see what Dunn has been up to.

Yeah, I wonder if he's still saving people or gave it up, and the only reason why I think that's possible is because he seemed deeply haunted by the Mr. Glass reveal, not probable, just possible. also I rewatched Unbreakable the other day and we may have gotten Kevin Wendell Crumb in there, just before we get our obligatory M. Night cameo there is a mother strong arming her son, and Dunn's premonition abilities go off. But that might just be a coincidence.

I don't think Dunn would have just given it up after he started, especially not with there doubtlessly being more people like Mr. Glass out there. Shymalan could have used that vision as the basis for Crumb.

Shymalan could have used that vision as the basis for Crumb. well yeah I agree, since it would undo the story of the film, like when people said "Luke will be evil in TFA" and my only reaction was "did you see the trilogy?" but just saying it's possible. I wouldn't be surprised if in Unbreakable 2 or whatever they'll call it, we get a flashback to that scene. now I know Night wanted to use the Horde in Unbreakable, but I'm not sure if the character of Crumb existed then. but at least we got a nice villain origin story

I could never get my head around "Luke will be evil in TFA", either. The whole point of his character development from Empire-to-Return was "Luke is not his father. Where Akakin failed, Luke will succeed.
I'm sure Shyamalan had A character in mind even back then. Guess we'll have to wait and see if he ever reveals how far ahead he planned this.

I can see why he had to shelve the idea for the original Unbreakable. Given how much focus is put on Dunn and Glass and the former discovering his powers, keeping The Horde in would have been like Venom in Spider-Man 3.

If it takes another 17 years, it'll be Dunn and The Horde walker-dualing!
