Have we discussed this one yet? Anyway, great movie, LOVE it, does NOT get the credit it deserves. THIS movie put zombies eating brains on the map, today EVERYBODY associates zombies with eating brain, but NOBODY ever acknowledges this movie started the trend. GREAT memorable lines, a very interesting cast. Something I hope somebody can help me with, does anybody know what kind of car Suicide had? Underneath all the graffiti, any idea what kind it was? That's been bugging me for a while.

It's pretty universally well loved with a huge fanbase. It's a hilarious black comedy with some horror elements. I don't watch it for scares. I watch it for laughs. It had a great cast that had excellent chemistry. I really wanted to like the sequel, but it was not in the same league. It took almost 20 years for another zombie/comedy/horror to have such an impact on me. That movie is Shaun of the Dead. Hilariously intelligent as well.

A perfect horror screwball (perhaps there aren't too many). Dan O'Bannon, like his old buddy John Carpenter, loved the cynical comedies of directors like Howard Hawks, William Wellman and Wesley Ruggles and this shows in the sharp comic interchanges and witty repartee of 'The Return Of The Living Dead'. I love it.

It's probably my favorite movie of all time along with Evil Dead 2.

It took almost 20 years for another zombie/comedy/horror to have such an impact on me. That movie is Shaun of the Dead. Hilariously intelligent as well. As a kid around (6-7 years old), watching this movie for the first time, I found it to be the most frightening film that I had ever seen. Did not help that it began to rain just afterwards seeing it, as I had a 20 minutes walk to get home, and all I could think about was Tarman creeping around in the woods, waiting for me. It took me almost a year to stop checking if he were under my bed or under the stairs at night, when going to the bathroom. While he might not be the fastest zombie ever, but Tarman sure seems like one of the more intelligent creatures of that film along with his creepy walking, sounds and then the way he takes a bite of the leader gang members head, like it was an apple. Gave me nightmares for weeks to come. One of the best zombie films ever made, sadly what followed of several sequels was really not that much, as they were more cheesy than great.

Phenomenal horror comedy with great characters, cool zombies, very quotable dialogue, and some impressive effects. (Gotta love Tarman.) It's very 80s, but in a good way; I love that soundtrack.

Third best of the zombie films, after the original and the one with Lori Cordille as a scientist dealing with crude military men and a mad scientist.
Extra appeal to me, since I was born in Louisville, and lived there much of my life.
Incidentally, the address doesn't exist. "Central Avenue" doesn't have that number for an address. It ends. It's the street Churchill Downs is on. If it did extend, it would go well into the almost all black West End, or if it went East, deep into the artsy expensive area.
Any way, none of you have the guts to nuke Louisville. Isis will never do it, because it's all crime, hate, Satan worship, and the kind of fun Isis loves, so it's really the safest city in the U.S..

Great film. It was fast pace, great lines and music. The scene where they are headed into the closet for supplies is my favorite.

I was going to start my own thread on Return Of The Living Dead, but I dug up this old one instead. Anyway, I caught this today and liked it better than the first time I saw it. A fun and thrilling horror comedy, and an excellent homage to Night Of The Living Dead. Director Dan O'Bannon said he did not want to make a direct sequel to the George Romero classic, but rather his own kind of film and do it tongue-in-cheek. The result is a superb blend of gore, laughs, and government conspiracies to make it all the more intriguing. And that tar zombie is a work of art!

James Karen's performance in this movie is one of my all time favourite on screen performances. Glad he and Clu Gulager are still around.

Hilarious film that somehow also humanizes the zombies.

Fantastic! I totally love it. An almost perfect example of a horror comedy. What I love most is that the characters act the way real people would in those circumstances.

I liked it, but not loved it. It needs a rewatch though since I'm a fan of 80's horror movies.

What original Zombie film ? What is the mad scientist one you are referring too? You mean ROTLD III? I think he meant Night of the Living Dead (the original) and Day of the Dead (the one with Lori Cordille as a scientist dealing with crude military men and a mad scientist).

My favorite zombie comedy (yes, over Shaun of the Dead). Great cast, and great soundtrack. "You think this is a f***ing costume? This is a way of life!"

Is that the one where Clu Gulager tells the coroner this?
"Okay, I'm gonna level with you. It's not weasels in the bag."
