I have not watched Superman II in over 30 years but I"m interested in this other version because it's something I have not seen. To those that have seen both, how would you compare the 2?

I think the Lester cut is superior even though the Donner cut does have some good stuff to it. The ideal version of Superman II would be a mix of the Lester and Donner cuts.

I"m kind of debating on revisiting the superman movies, so I figured I'd see the Donner cut since it's something different.

One thing I'm not a big fan of is the silly slapstick kind of humor and I heard the Donner cut has less of that so that's also another reason I felt I may enjoy the Donner cut a little more.

I agree with the mixed suggestion.
There is good and bad in both. The Donner cut had to use rehearsal footage and other things in order to maximize Donner's footage.
I think it was better that his mother be involved when he wants to lose his powers as opposed to Jor-El who comes across as a grumpy floating head giving Lois dirty looks.
The worst change is the time travel ending. I REALLY think this only made sense in the first Superman as he was distressed when he did it. If he can change time whenever he feels like it, that's kind of a bummer.

I"m tempted to watch each cut back to back and compare the two, but then again that would kind of kill it to watch the movie twice even though it's different.

For the most part, I prefer the Theatrical Cut... But, it is interesting to see what Donner was originally planning for Superman II... There are some good things about Both, and some bad things about Both... The Theatrical Cut, does have too much slapstick, and much of the scenes involving the villians harassing the citizens of the desert town is a bit much. The Donner Cut... I miss the Paris Terrorists' Sequence.
I don't like how at the beginning of the film, Lois tries to prove that Clark is Superman at the Daily Planet. The Version from the Theatrical Cut, with her jumping at Niagara Falls is better.
I do like how 99% of the Honeymoon Suite, with the Pink Bear, is removed.
I don't like how Lois fires a weapon with blanks at Clark. It just rubs me the wrong way.
I miss the depowering scene from the Theatrical Version. Giving up his powers for love, should have involved his Mother. And even though it is creepy, I miss the re-construction images of the inside of Clark... although, i am glad his clothes didn't change in the new version.
I do like the re-sequencing of scenes involving Lex's "Australia", and Clark going back to the Fortress. The Pacing works better for both parties getting from their places in the world to the Daily Planet.
I do like how Jor-el gives Clark back his powers.
I don't like the alternate dialog involving Superman's arrival at the Daily Planet, before the big fight.
I have mixed emotions about the Big Fight. I think the fight is better in the Theatrical Version, but It is nice how there is less slapstick, in the Donner Version.
I do like how Superman no longer throws that Super "S" at Non in the Fortress. I hated that.
I don't like some of the alternate takes from the fortress involving the dialog, between Lex, the villians, and Superman. It was better in the Theatrical Version
I do love the dialog scenes involving Superman and Lois, after he destroys the fortress, and at Lois' Apartment...especially when Lois says, "Your Secret's Safe With Me"... (Perfect Delivery Of That Line!)
I hate how Superman uses time travel to completely undo the entire movie. Why watch any movie then, if Superman will just undo it all? It makes him too powerful. Using it in the first film, because Lois died, was perfect...
However, I do like the newer scenes without the Super Kiss, but, it doesn't work without Time Travel.
Unfortunately, NOW, Clark was never beaten up by the Bully at the Diner, and the Bully should not know him... So, why does he go back and get his revenge? Clark becomes the Bully! Just Dumb. I want the Bully to who Clark is!
I miss Superman flying the Flag to the White House.
It's a shame Warner Brothers can't create a edit that features the Best of Both Versions... I think it can be done...

I prefer the Donner Cut for the tone, though the ending sucks (then again, so does the Lester Cut's).
