Sometimes to enjoy the melancholic somber mood. The environment has a finality to it and its very depressing yet peaceful

Yes, usually to visit my father, who has been gone 15 years now.
The other day, I visited a Jewish cemetery to visit the graves of 2 old school mates, & placed some stones on them.
One of them was a girl I used to play with who had been murdered, & the other one was a movie actor.

No, I do not visit graveyards. The graveyards with friends and family members buried in them are either out of town or out of state. So, I don't go. Dearly departed closer to home were cremated.

I have one that's very close to my flat, and which I can see from my living room window. Despite that, I don't go there often, but did walk around the graveyard today.

I live on an ancient burial ground, so every day. The graves are from the bronze age till viking age/early medieval times.

Yes I do. They're very inspirational and a source of beauty and peaceful calm. I also have a Gothic side to me, so I always appreciate, and am respectful of, graveyards. Serene, dramatic, lovely.... I'm especially fond of the older ones. Been fascinated since I was a kid.

At some point I realized I had been to several graves of people of historical note. So when traveling, I began to purposely increase that number if convenient. Adding to that collection became like a hobby. My list is now over a hundred names (including some famous animals) in the US and Europe. I find a graveyard much more interesting when the tombstones are not all nearly identical. So usually the older the better. The best one I've seen is Père Lachaise in Paris. Sometimes people even eat lunch there. The Zentralfriedhof in Vienna is the largest in Europe and also has many unique graves.

I love sculptures on tombs, usually angels or people.
This is among the coolest ones I'd like to see. It's Jules Verne's in Amiens.

Père Lachaise Cemetery, Catacombs of Paris, Montmartre Cemetery, Montmartre Cemetery all great. I would have loved to have seen Gibbet of Montfaucon.

I love sculpture on tombs and graves also, though I didn't have that fascination some thirty years ago when I visited Germany and Austria.
The local ones I visit are mostly older, and I love the ones that resemble logs; a Midwestern USA kind of thing. There is a wonderful sculpture of an angel in a small town not far from me; I've photographed her in different lighting and angles many times. Each photo is different, though the same sculpture - that's the fascination of sculpture; one work of art viewed many ways.

My ex-wife was a little fixated on cemeteries. I think she missed her mom and dad, both of whom had died relatively young. She and I would walk our dogs and her favorite places were at cemeteries. I'd never before known anyone who was drawn to cemeteries.
