I know Billboards is a strong possibility.

I think Lady Bird has the best chance. Everyone loves it.

It's 10 films that get nominated now right? My predictions:
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
The Post
Lady Bird
Call Me By Your Name
Dunkirk
The Big Sick
Mudbound
The Shape of Water
Detroit
The Lost City of Z

The Shape Of Water appears to be a front-runner. I'd like it to pull a 'Silence of the Lambs'. But there are several prestige pictures that are traditional enough to secure the award so that the Academy can make it not look like a snub. Like 'The Post' or '3 Billboards' or 'Call Me By Your Name'.

On second thought, scratch 'The Big Sick' and 'The Lost City of Z' from my list. Both are Amazon releases.

Has anyone seen "I, Tonya" yet. I'm really looking forward to it. I think it has a shot, at least, at a BP nomination. It is the second film this year featuring a woman protag in a historical sports movie. The earlier one - which I loved - was "Battle Of The Sexes." If that film is still remembered by January, it too may score a nomination.

The woman who hired ppl to smash another person's knee with a crowbar got a standing ovation. Harding didn't hire people to attack Nancy Kerrigan. It was done without her knowledge, but when she found out from her then-husband, she kept silent - didn't turn him in. For that, she got (after pleading guilty) probation, community service, a hefty fine, and was forced to resign from the Figure Skater's Association, ending her career. Her husband, bodyguard, and a couple of others directly involved in the assault served time. In a case of textbook class-ism, Harding was branded "trailer trash" and made a pariah.

Who cares about that meaningless crap? I'd figure everyone else on this thread aside from you but since you're responding, what are your picks?

Dunkirk has ZERO. My free picks Lady Bird Shape of Water Call me by your name They gave a nod to Hacksaw Ridge at a time when Mel Gibson was still a pariah. So I'd give Nolan a shot for Best Picture and Best Director for that matter.

My early fall prediction was The Post, but it's looking like Three Billboards, Lady Bird and Get Out are picking up steam heading into the New Year. I'd love to see Lady Bird win but I'll be pulling for Shape of Water.

Yeah, so I've heard, but I haven't even seen a trailer for that one yet. I look forward to seeing it though.
