B+ While some of it has aged out, namely the frantic mother scenes at the airports etc (i.e. I even skip over those scenes), it remains a holiday staple for me.
There's a bonus feature on the dvd where Columbus talks about making it look & feel fashionable so as to become more timeless & not stuck in 1990. I'd say they aced that, not least with John Hughes' script.
Stern & Pesci are standouts, great fun. Culkin is very good. John Williams' score is icing on the cake.
It's fun to watch pre-info age with no cell phones - including the tree house 'What, call the cops from a treehouse? C'mon!' The mom stuff is annoying. When they arrive at Paris, they all shove the woman off the payphone... who's to say she wasn't on the phone herself learning her son had cancer? lols Me me me me me... not a fan of that.

10.
Really have to disagree about Lost in New York being better.
From an education and honest New Yorker's point of view, brick throwing from the roof of a NYC building IS a thing and it is not used to combat home invasions or personal attacks. Dipshit kids do this for fun and parents either don't know, don't care, or are right next to them bombing away.
Sorry. I fucking hate this movie.

It was far fetched back then, rare but not impossible. Now they skip school TO do this.
I rated the original 10.

No, I meant what did you rate the 2nd one? And the other 3 sequels (if you've seen them)?

I've lost count of how many "sequels" there have been. Everything after the second one are just embarrassingly bad.

There were four.
After the second one they should have just moved to the outback and lives the rest of their lives on their porch with rifles on their laps waiting for Joe pesci to show up.

I liked it more when I was younger, but it has aged well and is still fun to watch, so 7/10 it is.
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York however was poor, maybe 4/10 and I have no interest watching the rest.
