What I'm about to say now may sound strange. As an M.C.U. movie, THOR PART 3: RAGNAROK manages to be better overall than THOR PARTS 1 & 2. However, it doesn't work as a sequel to the God of Thunder's solo adventures, which tried to balance the drama with the comedy. This is pure comedy. They're clearly trying to rework his movies to be more like the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY installments. It's an inter-galactic adventure with different races of aliens and colorful sequences. THOR is STAR-LORD; VALKYRIE is GAMORA and ROCKET; HULK is DRAX and GROOT. This retooling wouldn't have bothered me so much if dramatic conflicts hadn't been brought up only to be treated lightly:
-It's bad enough for fictional couples to break up in between movies, but JANE FOSTER deserved more than 2 throaway lines. It made the relationship seem meaningless.
-The new villain is HELA, the sister THOR & LOKI never knew they had. That could've caused more of the family conflict these movies have shown. In the end, the fact that she's their sister is irrelevant. She claims to be the heiress to the throne of Asgard, but she would've gone after it anyway.
Sequels where the hero has to escape from a new place while the villain is causing chaos somewhere else tend to feel like filler. Luckily, this is a very fun and funny movie. Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson's performances are very good, and so is the music score. One sign that the super-villain is good at being bad (you know what I mean) is that, even if they lose (because they can only be in 1 movie), they still cause some kind of damage (physical and/or emotional) that the super-hero won't have forgetten completely by the next movie.

-BRUCE BANNER is afraid that, if he transforms into HULK one more time, he might not be able to transform back. During the final battle, he decides to take the risk. The movie ends with him still as HULK and no mention of this dilemma.

-THOR discovers that his father lied about the history of their kingdom. There's shock and disappointment in his face and... nothing else happens after that moment.

HELA does more true damage than most villains in this universe (she destroys THOR's hammer!), but she's still disappointing considering she's the Goddess of Death. She almost doesn't kill anyone and she spends too much time gathering an army that I don't think someone with her powers really needed. She cuts THOR's eye, but no one really seems to care. He and LOKI joke about it a few minutes after it happens. It doesn't even seem like it hurts him. Asgard is destroyed, but THOR made that decision. OK, he did it because he thought it was the only way to defeat her, so one could argue she indirectly caused the destruction... but I think that's grasping for straws.
