Love it.
It is not gospel at all, it is based off a book by a guy who wondered what it must be like to realise that you are Jesus at 30, and the essential nature of man.
trivia: the final shot is a whiteout, it was not intentional the film just whiteed out and FF cuppola decided that was kismet.

I just saw a video on youtube depicting the scene where he confronts the money changers. One of the people who commented on the video 3 years ago was one "Molarmama32".
Is that our Molar?

Great film. And Jesus sacrifice actually works better in that film than in any of the gospels IMO. Basically Jesus sacrifices his human nature and all the pleasures and suffering that come with it. It's actually quite moving.

I am not here to critique this film but I will say that the book's author, Nikos Kazantzakis, was excommunicated by the Greek Orthodox Church. I guess they stand strong in their dogma.

Yeah the implication that Jesus had some connection to humanity was seemingly too much for them. EDIT: Turns out he was not excommunicated, although there was a movement to do so.

It's brilliant, but only Scorsese's second best movie - Silence was even better, one of the defining masterpieces of this age.

Two words: VISUALLY STUNNING!
I give it about 8/10. It's not my interpretation, but it is something a lot of us wondered about. Some think Jesus wasn't in an all knowing form, but I think he was, if he was God, so I don't see the movie as correct in his depiction, but it's a fair opinion.
I think it gives a great and accurate portrayal of Saul of Tarsus. I'm not as big on him as some Christians, but then most fundamentalists actually think of Saul as the Messiah, whether they admit it or not. They count his words much higher than those of Jesus. by the year 2100, I guarantee you that the fundamentalist American culture will consider Saul of Tarsus the Messiah instead of Jesus. They'll be wrong, led by the Devil, but that's already what they're headed for.

I can't remember enough of it.
When I saw it, I hadn't read the Gospel so I can't comment on accuracy at all although that is irrelevant since it's based on a book rather than Gospels.

If you have a point to get across, then it's perfectly OK to stretch the truth, exaggerate, embellish, mislead, obfuscate, and just plain old flat out lie. And don't bother calling a liar out on their lies 'cause that just makes you fake news.

I've never seen this movie, but apparently it was controversial for including things that weren't in the gospel narratives.
I watched a couple scenes on YouTube and the parts I saw seemed accurate.
Do you like this movie? Do you dislike this movie? Good film. I wouldn't say it includes things that are not in the gospels -- rather, I'd say it includes things that are in the gospels. The bulk of the story is essentially an original work -- only bits and pieces are taken from the NT.

So I heard about the initial cause to excommunicate and never followed up on the story. I guess Nikos really does not care what I think. Get real.

It's been on this week. Great movie, stimulating concept.
Peter Gabriel's contribution didn't hurt.
