It's a 10/10 for me. I LOVED this movie so much as a kid. I've watched this so many times that our VHS copy ended up destroyed lol.
I've recently picked up the Blue-ray trilogy collection and just finished rewatching the first film and i can't get over how much it still holds up to this day. Easily one of Steven Spielberg best films!

10/10. Part of that rare breed of movies that gets better with each viewing.

8/10 Classic
PS I'm glad finally someone added 0.5's to the voting poll. It was frustrating to vote when the rating wasn't a whole number.

10/10, it has an unique sense of wonder and adventure and it gets better with each viewing. One of my favorite movies from when I was a kid and also one of the reasons why I'm so thankful for the movies that Spielberg has made.

I figured i'd play it safe and added them together.

Lol at everyone giving this a 10. 8 out of 10. Its a good film, but deeply flawed, and pales in comparison to the book.

I would give it an 8.5/10
I understand some may decry the film as being more about the FX and story, but I disagree. While yes, the dinosaurs look great, I still enjoy the characters and story being told. Dr. Grant, Ellie Sattler, Ian Malcolm, John Hammond and even the kids are all engaging enough characters and I like the film's themes of science being abused. It's a good example of a popcorn blockbuster done right.
As for comparing it to the original novel by Michael Crichton, I like both. The JP novel is entertaining, but the many characters, the gruesome kills and numerous action sequences fit better in a TV mini-series than a three-act film. I still like what Spielberg did in his version and his John Hammond (less an evil man, but a rich grandfather who sees the error of his ways) is more compelling to me and it helps that he's played Richard Attenborough.
