It had been a long time since we had Pizza-Hut pizza. And it will be a long time before we have it again. We got a Supreme Pan Pizza. They were as stingy as ever with the toppings and hardly any sauce. Glad we ordered a cup of extra sauce to dip the crust in. We used it to add a little more sauce to our pizza. It was only a medium pizza but still cost 17 dollars. Any of you like pizza hut pizza?
I do want to say their pizza used to be good. Lots of sauce and toppings. Not no more.

Some of the best pizza I have ever had.

...Pizza Hut has gone the way of Sizzler and Ponderosa...they brought you in with much fanfare, then skimped on their offerings while you paid the penny...!!! Good riddance to these chiselers...!!!

For many years going back to the 1970s Pizza Hut was my first choice. But as others have noted, skimpy toppings and price hikes made it to where I don't eat there anymore. Domino's and Little Caesars are my next choices. I don't like Papa John's or Hungry Howie's. I do wish there were some NY or Chicago-style places in my area.

I wouldn't say I've had a ton of pizza hut, but I do think I enjoy dominoes pizza more than that. Or the slices I can get at 7 eleven when they're fresh. But I generally stay away from that as well. I like the local pizza places anywhere I go on the east coast.

Where I live, Papa John's is the most expensive, when compared to Pizza Hut and Dominos (even with their specials). Maybe each franchise location sets their own pricing.

Pizza Hut was always my favorite 'chain' pizza, and the fact that they offered a sit-down experience, for me, always made it seem just a little 'better' than other places. And though our local Pizza Hut still has the sit-down area (something, apparently, that is becoming rarer and rarer for Pizza Hut restaurants to have), it's now pretty much a "serve yourself" experience......you place your order at the counter, they make it, and then call you when it's ready for you to pick up.....in other words, the 'service' aspect is now left completely to the customer. Simply put, just not as 'special' as it once seemed...
And for many years they offered something else that I REALLY liked, that sadly, has also now ended.....their weekday lunchtime 'buffet' that offered a decent variety of interesting pizzas (including their 'dessert' pizza) and salad, for a reasonable price.
So, as far as enticing me as a customer, they've now pretty much eliminated every reason I had in the past to visit them.......in fact it's been at least three years since I've been there, possibly as many as five.
And, though I do still like their pizzas, any time I've thought of ordering from them any time recently, in the end, I've always decided against them, since they've systematically removed all the 'positives' that actually made me want to do so in the past....

You would think the national chains would have more money to put into top of the line cooking equipment and all the best ingredients for their pizza's.

Local pizza joints are ALMOST always BETTER than the national chains. I agree but I wonder why. You would think the national chains would have more money to put into top of the line cooking equipment and all the best ingredients for their pizza's. To make a pizza for a standalone shop, you need money for rent, money for employees, money for equipment, water, flour, tomatoes and toppings. You go to the store in the morning and you buy your stuff. You can easily tweak your ingredients to maximize the taste. You get to know your customers. Maybe you take out an ad in the paper but generally speaking the locals will get to you know your shop regardless. National chain shit like Dominoes and Papa Johns spends vast sums of money on corporate overhead, exorbitant salaries for higher-ups, intellectual property protection, marketing and market research, SEC filings (for those public companies), ongoing litigation support........and only then do they get to the food where they have distribution costs, warehousing costs, for those that grow their own, the agricultural costs......and their food is all universally made the same, shitty way. X amount of sauce, y number of slices of pepperoni, Z weight in cheese, etc. Plus, when marketing costs go up by $X, then you go with a cheaper sauce to make up the difference. The end result is a tasteless product made by corporate overlords who don't give two shits about whether you like the food or not. They know people will eat it because people are easy to direct in that regard.

When I read what you said about Papa Johns it surprised me. Remember in my opening post I said we got a medium pizza at pizza hut for 17 dollars. I just got our mail and an ad for Papa Johns was with it. One ad says a large 3 topping pizza for $7.99. Another one says any large Specialty or large 5 topping pizza for $10.99. Both of those deals are much better than what we paid at Pizza hut. When you said maybe each franchise location sets their own pricing you might have been right.

I can usually get two medium pizzas for about $18 (with a coupon) from Dominoes or PH. Sometimes I can even get two large pizzas for less than $18. Every time I think I should give PJ another shot (because I didn't like the sauce the last time), I generally log off their website after looking at their "discounted" prices. Again, this might be a territory thing.

Each franchisee's right to set their own pricing are guided by certain limits set forth in their underlying franchise agreement. These vary depending on your region and whether there are other franchisees in the area. For example, while Papa Johns can set its own national policy and have, let's just say "$5 Tuesday, any pie you want," and each store has to do it, a store can't just, on its own, sell pizza for $5 because that would cannibalize other local Papa Johns.

I just had some last week. I was shocked that they gave me an incredibly thin pizza. I was really expecting something like the deep dish pizza. I usually get the deep dish pepperoni pizza, but I'm trying to cut down on the pepperoni and got the ham and pineapple toppings instead. Other than that, I mostly order pizzas from Papa John's and Little Caesars.

The only 3 chains in my area are Little Caesars, domiNOs and Pizza hut it's mostly independent shops around here. I found one that I liked better than Papa Johns. I forgot it's name already but that papa johns garlic sauce. OH MAN. If I had that to put on this place's pizza, ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh
