Bigger box office numbers this week shouldn't be that surprising. This is the week of Winter/Christmas break for most people. After New Years Day is when we find out how much juice this movie really has.

Should crack a billion this weekend, then slow down a lot

"Underperforms expectations" what nonsense. Just another reminder as to why I put him on block a long time ago. What had TLJ been expected to make before the backlash, $1.5 billion?

Whatever it ends up making it'll still be about as much if not more than what was expected out of The Force Awakens before it came out.

It does seem like all Holiday films are under performing besides Jumanji. Downsizing and Father Figures are outright bombs.

Thats probably why everything is a remake or a comic book movie anymore. We know what they are going to be about so we go. There are plenty of art house flicks still being made. This should've been one of those instead of a wide release with a big name attached to it. The audience just isn't there.

So it'll probably hit a billion dollars by the end of it's theatrical run. Which is still a good number.
I wonder how well episode 9 will do?

Yeah it's at $934 million now so it should pass $1 billion by the end of the weekend easily.

What an uneventful run. TLJ was suppose to top 1.5b easy, it will do only 1.3b+

I just found out that this movie won't open in China until January 5 (next year of course). That will add a significant amount to the global box-office that I think most people (including me) forgot about. TFA made 124 million dollars in China, so I can definitely see TLJ making at least 100 million dollars in China.

So according to Deadline it's going to be at $537 million domestically by Monday. That will make it
- The #1 highest grossing movie of 2017.
- The #6 highest grossing movie ever.
- It'll surpass Rogue One's gross and also Revenge of the Sith's adjusted gross.
So it will possibly pass $1 billion even without the overseas money for the weekend.
