So it's at $1.122 billion now. Not sure how high it will go, perhaps $1.3 billion? It's definitely going to be the highest grossing movie of 2017 though. I question if it will even get to $1.2 billion. It was #3 at the domestic box office on Friday. It's struggling in China. And after this week, theaters will no longer be required to screen the movie exclusively in their largest auditoriums. It'll easily get to $1.2 billion. It only needs another $78 million and it's supposed to make $23 million in US this weekend.

How much was Disney expecting to make off TLJ before all the bad press? $1.5 billion? $1.65? I don't know what Disney was projecting. But here's a Forbes article from November 14 2017 (one month prior to the movie's opening) that states: So even if it does surpass $1.2 billion, it will be about $200 million short of the "pessimistic" box office prediction. Ouch.

The way I see it TFA was the fluke not tlj. TFA overperformed and tlj is underperforming compared to that. Top ten of all time is going to be fine. Would I wish 2 billion sure! But some humility never hurt anyone and Disney sometimes sorely needs it. Episode IX will please everyone, critics and toxic fans. Hurray!

...and that's the sound of Chris Evans sticking his arm into the inner mechanisms of a train engine.

Now at $1.229 billion. It might be able to surpass Beauty and the Beast for the #1 movie of 2017 by Sunday.

Lol, of course it's going to make it. You don't know how box office works do you? Unless it's sarcasm, in that case I'm sorry, didn't catch that.
