Snoke? Seriously! I was hoping for a decent payoff, hell I wouldn't have minded him being Darth Plagueis even if it would have been predictable.
I mean if the goal was to make kylo the one to lead the first order, why even bother making snoke a mystery in episode 7?

Where did he come from? Did he have a master?

Because JJ Abrams likes mysteries but not answers because answers apparently always ruin mysteries. And he's creatively lazy.

Abrams and Rian took no time to show or explain the lore behind what these guys do.

Isn't it a bit the same as in the original trilogy? There people are hinting at the emperor in Empire Strikes Back and we even get a brief scene with the emperor, setting him up as someone who has full control over Vader, who we thought was the ulimate evil guy. And then in episode 6 the emperor dies without us, the audience, ever knowing who he was or where he came from. I'd like to find out about Snoke one day, but I really liked the decision they made with Snoke's storyline.

There's no mention of him being a sith that I could remember. I feel like Disney will do away with Jedi as well and just create a new faction.

Where did he come from? Did he have a master? Snoke came from where we've all known but buried deep down all along - off the pages of the OT scripts! All they ever did was take the original idea of the separated (destined to be force yin yang) Solo kids and try to stuff them back into the ANH storyline. Any further brain power spent on how that could then tie up and make any sense following on from the OT was only spent by the fans and certainly not JJ, Kennedy and now Johnson...

I'm really hoping his character isn't forgotten. He can stay dead, but I hope we figure out who he is and it actually impacts the story.

We didn't even get a name for the Emperor in the Original Trilogy, or any kind of backstory...no one complained then.

Seems he was literally a generic placeholder, a CGI-carbon copy of the original Emperor performance in TESB and they decided to do away with him early as a twist. I'm fine with this, as Snoke, including the awkward name, was an empty object for projections and fan theories.
Darth Plagueis would of course be great connective tissue, but only if they have ideas and use him right (or it would ruin one of the best SciFi narrations ever, ie the Opera scene). They seemingly do not.
But who is to say that they can't still retcon Snoke into Darth Plagueis? After all this is the Sith who - after being murdered - unnaturally came back to life. Why not now again, with a Spider torso and an appetite for vengeance a la Maul? This would probably be right way to reveal his identity.

Did we know anything about the Emperor in the OT? Was he even given a name? No, he was just this random guy with Force Powers who helped corrupt Anakin into Vader.

I think Star Wars writers as far back as the first movies have a habit of making things up as they go along, leading to unanswered questions and plot holes.

You might not have liked the character, but his purpose was very clear. He even openly mocked Kylo wearing the helmet in trying to imitate Vader. Darth Plagueis would have been a terrible choice. Completely illogical for a character who was never on screen – and supposedly dead – to just randomly show up after six movies.

Some of us were hoping Snoke was going to be more than a Discount Emperor.
