Per the DVD release of the show, the following episodes of British sitcom Spooner's Patch no longer exist in the archives: "The Share-Out", originally aired 30 July 1979. "High Noon", originally aired 4 September 1980 "The Lock-Up", originally aired 22 April 1982
Additionally, the mastertapes of the following episodes are damaged: "The Birthday Double", originally aired 16 October 1980 (damage to closing credits) "Vote, Mrs. Cantaford", originally aired 20 May 1982 (severely damaged, apparently)
The good news: all of the lost episodes survive as home VCR copies taped by one of the writers. However, the quality of these copies is below broadcast standards. Nevertheless, these home VCR copies are included on the DVD release.
Just surprised that several mastertapes for a late-1970s/early-1980s sitcom would be lost.

Oh the British stuff. I've never watched any of those shows. It is my hope that nothing will ever be lost. History and all tv shows and movies need to be preserved

Not sure if anyone cares, but I watched the episode The Share-Out, which is one of the episodes for which the mastertape is lost and only a home VCR copy exists. The good news: although not up to mastertape standards, that home VCR copy is pretty good. Clearly a very good model of VCR was used to record it, and a good brand of video-tape.
