I mean, how do these graphics make the game any more playable than the older one? I'm sorry, I don't think they do.How is the gameplay from the new doom more enjoyable than the old game?

I'll give the older Doom this. Since you can't look up or down there's a lot more strategy you need to use when it comes to death matches.

I never bothered with the new Doom. I lost interest after finding out it's another reboot of the original. Doom3 was a reboot of Doom which makes sense, since game technology had improved tremendously since then.
But the difference between a game from like 2004 and now though is nowhere near as big of a leap as that was, to warrant it being another reboot. It should have been a reboot of Doom II/Sequel to Doom3. Lame.

Doom4: Hell on Earth could still have had the original style of run and gun that the originals did, since it would take place on earth and in much more open areas. Whereas Doom3 took place mainly on a space station, so the claustrophobic and more horror movie type gameplay made sense and was more realistic. How are the originals not horror though? The graphics may be dated, but they were definitely very scary at times, and had a lot of horror imagery. Also the fast pace run and gun style is a product of the time. Think of the other FPS games from the era. Wolfenstein, Blake Stone, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3D etc. They all had that style. That's just how FPS games were made back then. It doesn't mean a modern Doom game has to be the same.

And I think that alone should be enough to say why you should at least give the new Doom a shot. I personally think it's terrible that the CoD series offers the same thing every single year when it comes to game play. The differences are so small to me that you should just buy one of the newer titles and you'll be set for 5 years. While ID could have done the same thing with Doom I don't think there was a demand for another horror game like that. Why should I get another Doom when there's Alien Isolation or the (previously) upcoming Resident Evil 7? I think bringing back the style of game play from the first game was a smart idea. What other games are like that? But I get you're not happy that the new Doom isn't a continuation of the story made in Doom 3. Well why should they continue it? Is there any real demand for that? What story are they going to tell? I'm not saying it's impossible but just to continue the story for the heck of it isn't always the best idea. Just like Doom 3 itself. It doesn't continue the story made in the first two Doom games. What's wrong with ID making a new story for the new game?
