becuase The Last Jedi has dropped 69%, the second worst drop for a Star Wars film. That said, it's still making money worldwide, as it's approaching $800 million.
what do you guys think? Is the saga losing its touch with the US audience?

It will make less than TFA, but it'll still be the 3rd highest grossing movie domestic and probably top 5 worldwide. I don't think we will really know if Star Wars is 'losing its touch commercially' until Solo & episode 9. It will be interesting to see how episode 8 will affect those movies in terms of box offfice.

It touched me... like it was Roy Moore.

Might become 2017 highest (U.S. domestic) flick in 16 days of release. Kind of hard to argue it is losing its touch.
I think TFA set a bar that sequels could not match much like original Star Wars compared to Empire Strikes Back which incidentaly didn't have a Star Wars film inbetween as TLJ and TFA did with Rogue One.

Not yet. In all honesty, The Last Jedi was never going to do as well as The Force Awakens, but it's still going to be the year's highest-grossing domestic release and possibly the year's highest-grossing film worldwide, if not among the top three. We'll know if the Star Wars film series is losing its touch a few films down the line.

Its a bad movie, probably the worst Star Wars film, i think the quality is the reason for the drop #NotMyLuke

Many people who didn't like the film are going back over every scene of this 2 1/2 hour film with a fine tooth comb to describe how much they didn't like it. They are filming youtube videos, writing reviews, and voting on how bad this film is. They'll be in line for episode IX just to give it one last chance and get through this trainwreck of a trilogy although they said they would never see TLJ after the fiasco that was TFA.
Sounds like it's not lost its touch one bit.

Yes, it started with TFA from a creative point of view.

This pains me to say as I love the original SW trilogy and consider them part of the reason I became such a big film fan, but yes, I feel Star Wars is losing its appeal.
I feel like many are just feeling over-saturated by the franchise; we've got the main episodes coming out every two years and an anthology/spin-off in between. Lucas was wise to wait three years between installments so they could take their time with the production and make the audience anticipate it more.
I'm sure the films will at least do decent business at the box office, but from an artistic standpoint, I feel like Disney needs to be reminded of "quality before quantity".

What is embarresing is that it wont even hit 700 million domestic, despite a opening weekend 3 times that of Avatar

The Force Awakens was a huge cultural event. It was the first live-action theatrical Star Wars film in ten years, and a sequel to one of the most-beloved film trilogies. The marketing campaign and Internet speculation surrounding the central characters added more anticipation to the film. It was like lightning in a bottle.
After The Force Awakens and Rogue One were released, the novelty had worn off. It's quite similar to how The Empire Strikes Back performed in 1980. Fans still showed up in lines at the theaters, but it didn't ignite the same cultural frenzy that Star Wars did.

Right now the only thing that can really hurt Star Wars at the box office is oversaturation.

Its not even gonna outgross the 20 year old titanic. Expect a final gross of 635 million. A massive 300 million drop from the prevoius episode.
