I've seen plenty of shows worse than My Mother the Car ("Flavor of Love", "E! Hollywood News", "Demolition Dynasty", "Queen for a Day", "The Jerry Springer Show", "Mother and Son", "Love Thy Neighbour in Australia", "The Brady Bunch Hour", "National Nine News", "The Daily Show", "The O'Reilly Factor", "Fox and Friends", "Strike it Rich", "The Magic Clown", "Dragon Ball GT", "CatDog", "Angela Anaconda", "TV Reader's Digest", "The Simple Life", "Stupid Stupid Man", "The Dating Game", and many others....)
EDIT: Also add "Camel News Caravan", "Fairly OddParents", "The Frances Langford-Don Ameche Show", and "101 Even Bigger Celebrity Oops". There's probably many other horrible series I've forgotten about.

Sitcom wise it's really bad. It's hard to compare it to talk shows, reality shows, and political shows and other things.

Sitcom wise it's really bad. It's hard to compare it to talk shows, reality shows, and political shows and other things. But there are plenty of sitcoms worse than "My Mother the Car", including some of the shows I mentioned above (for example, the 2000s-era Australian sitcom "Stupid Stupid Man", whose only justification for existence was that it was local content with local actors. I can't think of any other explanation for how it managed to get two seasons. It really was an awful clone of those American office sitcoms of the period). I forget the name, but there was a truly awful sitcom produced by one of the U.S. religious channels back in the 2000s, which looked like it was taped using a camcorder using cheap VHS cassettes. Awful, and made "My Mother the Car" look good by comparison. The 1970s Canadian sitcom "The Trouble with Tracy" was also much worse than "My Mother the Car".

I agree. It is bad. I've given it a try for less than 10 minutes when I've seen it's been on recently.
Only thing I like are the theme song lyrics.

The 1970s Canadian sitcom "The Trouble with Tracy" was also much worse than "My Mother the Car". The chick was cute though. Had a sort of Nicole Kidman thing going on. The story behind TTWT is fascinating. All I've ever actually seen of it is this clip.

I guess you could always find something you perceive as worse. But the concept of somebody being reincarnated as a car is pretty bad.

This show is a rip-off of MR. ED, only with the talking car replacing the talking horse. Of course, only the "paterfamilias" knew that fact.
But as bad as this show is, I gotta give Jerry Van Dyke credit. I think he did a pretty good job in the thankless role of Dave Crabtree. He's a much better actor than he's ever been given credit for--always in the shadow of his older brother Dick. I wish he could have won at least one Emmy for his magnificent performance as Luther Van Damm on COACH.
