Filmmaker Antonio Mercero has died aged 82. Mercero's made-for-television picture 'La Cabina' (1972) is considered by many European horror film critics to be among the greatest horror films ever made and remains massively influential here in the U K. In his homeland Spain, Mercero will be fondly remembered for directing award winning comedies like 'Tobi' (1978) and 'Wait For Me In Heaven' (1988).

I'm just hearing that Margot Kidder has passed away at the age of 69. She was a brilliant actress, one of the great performers in science-fiction, fantasy and horror. Her work in 'Sisters' (1973), 'Black Christmas' (1974), 'The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud' (1975) and 'The Amityville Horror' (1979) stands tall among 1970s horror cinema. She displayed her considerable comic abilities in movies like 'Quackser Fortune Has A Cousin In The Bronx' (1970) and 'Mob Story' (1989). In more recent years, it was particularly thrilling seeing Kidder work in 'Angel Blade' (2002). She led a difficult life, dealing with physical injury, confronting mental health problems, fighting through difficult episodes with bravery. I'm so sad to hear she's gone. Thanks for the memories and some truly great movies, Ms. Kidder ... I hope you're at peace.
Margot Kidder Rest in Peace

Anna Maria Ferrero, star of stage and screen, has passed away at the age of 84. Ferrero was born in Rome, Italy on February 18, 1934. Almost as soon as the cinema had discovered her, Ferrero was starring in major Italian productions, including Vittorio De Sica & Gianni Franciolini's 'It Happened In The Park' (1953), Michelangelo Antonioni's 'The Vanquished' (1953), Claudio Gora's 'Eager To Live' (1953) and Raffaello Matarazzo's 'Verdi, The King Of Melody' (1953). Ferrero worked with many of the leading filmmakers of "commedia all'italiana" during the course of her career, including Mario Monicelli, Dino Risi, Mauro Bolognini, Luigi Comencini, Nanni Loy and Steno. She worked on several motion pictures with political filmmaker Carlo Lizzani and collaborated on stage and screen with the artist Eduardo De Filippo who'd direct her in 'Neapolitans In Milan' (1963). Her contributions to Italian art and culture during the 1950s and 1960s were immense.
Thanks for the movies, Ms. Ferrero.

Aleksandr Yakovlevich Askoldov The Soviet Russian actor and film director has passed away at 85. One of the highlights of 1967 in Classic film is his outstanding debut feature, Commissar . 1967 was the year of the 50th anniversary of 1917 October Revolution and the events were to be presented cinematically in the Communist Party-mandated style of heroic realism. Askoldov ran foul of the communist party and was expelled, the film was banned for more than 20 years, putting an end to his career as a director in the Soviet Union. Shelved by the KGB, the film was reconstructed and finally released in 1988 to much critical acclaim... R.I.P.
