The early 90s saw a lot of serious westerns, starting with Dances with Wolves, Unforgiven, Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, and then along came Maverick which was pure lighthearted fun and could not be more different in tone, which is part of its appeal. It never takes itself seriously. A stellar cast with Mel Gibson, James Garner and Jodie Foster, a rousing score and none other than Richard Donner directing. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 9/10

It's a fun movie which makes it pretty unique in the Western genre.
