I watched it on NETFLIX. This was probably my first time seeing it since it originally aired on Saturday mornings in the 70's.
The animation is ridiculously frugal as was quite common on Saturday morning TV in those days. But the stories are still quite good. I know it isn't official canon but I still think of it as season 4 of the series.

I recently watched it for the 1st time on Netflix, it's pretty much the 4th season since it has a number of the same writers and a few actors from the show reprising their roles in it. One issue I had with the show was the repeating voices, where they would have the main cast voice other characters on the show and their voice was either identical or slight different but still recognisably one of the cast.

I like all the references to episodes in the original series and also the fact that it has the first use of a holodeck in the franchise. Of course the original cast doing there own voices is the best part.

I enjoyed it, although I found the budgetary restrictions a bit trying at times.

It's curious that Discovery had some nods to the show, something of a sign the Disco people consider the show cannon - or at least parts of it.

Just started it on Netflix, do theybevervexplain where Chekov went? Back to Mother Russia? I know they left the actor out for budget reasons, but do they explain where he is?

Yes, the show did have some animation, and repetitive voice actor issues that was typical...
For a "Saturday Morning TV Series", if that is what the intent of this series was created for...
However, I was really impressed with how they tried to make the show, be appealing even to adults by making the tone of the show seem, mostly, as if it really was Season 4 of the live action series!
While it was clear that having moments, LIKE, Kirk continuously pushing the every growing Tribbles out of his Captain's chair, was probably aimed at the kiddies... I still found it quite humorous! I would have loved to have seen William Shatner's face dealing with that situation LOL!
Great Show!

I recall one episode was written by Larry Niven, who jams a good deal of his Tales of Known Space into 25 minutes.

Love it. It's the closest thing we ever got to a fourth season of The Original Series.

I wondered about that because I read one of those known space books many years ago and then when I saw that cat like species on the Star Trek show, I had to ask myself if I had read a Star Trek book without knowing it. I guess it was a sort of cross over between 2 franchises.

I've seen a few episodes but never got around to watching them all. I burned myself out on Trek and haven't watched any of the original stuff for some years.

My favorite funny scene is from the episode in which the Enterprise is plagued by a practical joker (I don't know the ep's title) and Kirk stomps onto the bridge, complaining, "I just got my uniform back from the laundry!" He turns around and across the back of his uniform shirt is printed "Kirk Is a Jerk". I giggled over that one for days! (Hey, I was a teenager...)
