I don't bother with not eating meat on Friday. As for giving up something it's usually more like giving something or doing something good for others.

klsI don’t, to be honest (for my sins ), and I’d have to suppose that (to answer your question) most Catholics nowadays don’t either (at least, not that I know). Not to bore the lot of you here with my own religious history, but there was a period in which I attended the Tridentine Mass at a lovely church in Newton Centre and tried to keep up with some more of the Catholic Church’s older traditions: no meat on any Friday, for example. I have gone back to that church, but I’m not exactly that person any more. I do admire those people who do hold on to those old traditions (in whatever church or religion), however. I do still wish, however, that they’d reform the Mass again; I can’t stand the Novus Ordo, which tends to take the mystery and magic out of the whole thing. A nice middle ground between the EF and the OF, akin to the Anglican Use (which I have also attended), would be nice.

Probably one of the reasons I am no longer a Catholic.

I said probably one of the reasons. There were plenty more. Yes, but, why would that particular devotion even be a reason at all?

Nuns? Did you go to Catholic school? I went to public. Yep, Catholic School I attended a Catholic elementary school for 2 years. Coincidentally, the only 2 teachers I ever had a strong dislike for, I had at this particular school. Fortunately, they were both substitute teachers. That said, neither one of them were a priest or a nun.

She said in first grade she used to have he left hand smacked with a ruler if she was holding a pencil or writing with it. Turned her into a righty.
