In my opinion, one of the best detective shows of the 80's. Does anyone else here like it.

I remember this show taylorfirst1 and thought it was pretty good too. But it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it, so I don’t really remember it that well now. I do remember that later in the series, a very attractive actress by the name of Barbara Stock played the love interest, since she would be hard to forget. I actually remember Vegas better for whatever reason. I also remember that we played the Vegas theme in marching band way back in high school. Sadly, we lost Mr Urich at far too young of an age

Vegas was a good show too. But I think Spenser was where Robert really hit his stride. He had the right combination of cool, tough, and down to earth. Plus he had Hawk as his right hand man.

But to lose both parents because of it. I feel for their kids.

I remember Spenser: For Hire as a good show, for some reason I also remember that it was always snowy and/or rather bad weather in the outdoor scenes that I thought was an interesting aspect that put it apart from other series, plus that the stories where generally of good quality, and that Spencer is not without his faults.

It was a surprisingly good detective/cop show. One of the few I followed during the 80's. Avery Brooks was great on that show, as well.

I don't know if it's the best detective show of the 80s because I haven't seen that many. I do like Magnum quite a bit.
I bought the first season of Spenser on a lightning sale on Amazon for about $10 bucks and loved it.
Season 2 was so expensive I put it off, letting it sit in my Amazon basket til the price dropped. Eventually it did.
I started season 2 about a month ago.
I like this season almost as much as the first. I do miss Spenser's firehouse apartment, though.
I wondered why they got rid of Barbara Stock. She and Spenser had some nice chemistry.
I do like McCormick, though.
I love that they shoot on location in Boston.
And I want that black 66 Mustang Spenser buys this season. I had the same reaction he did when he first saw it and had to own it.
Season one I would give 9/10.
Season two so far I would give 8/10.
As soon as season 3 gets at least close to $20 I will pick that up, too.

Hawk was great, but I don't remember his spinoff series being very good.

I finally finished season 2.
A solid season, I think the romance between Spenser and McCormick never quite worked like it did with Susan. Nothing against the actress or the character.
Hawk played a bigger role and stole just about every scene. Brooks really nailed that character.
8/10
I picked up season 3 recently on eBay for about $14, just watched the first episode and pleasantly surprised to see Susan back.

Finally finished season 3 tonight. I thought it was stronger than the second, some shocking surprises and a grittier feel, at least in the first half.
The second half became a little more predictable with the second to last episode clearly meant as a pilot for a spinoff for a 'colorful' lawyer. Not a good episode, but it did have a young Ving Rames in it. Part of the fun was seeing some young actors before they became well known, like William H Macy and Samuel Jackson.
The best part was having Susan back, she and Spenser have a nice chemistry. Her presence alone seems to provide a stabilizing force for the show.
And Avery Brooks as Hawk steals just about every scene he is in.
Robert Urich does a very nice job throughout as Spenser, the poet/boxer/private cop.
9/10 for season 3 and overall I'd give the series 8.5/10.
I wonder how faithful it is to the Parker novels?
