Will this be any good? Predators seemed OK despite a miscast Adrian Brody, but hardly reignited the franchise.

Probably suck.

I liked Brody better than expected and it was rated R at least. But the movie felt tired. Not sure about this. It's not just the casting (Key, really?) but it simply doesn't sound interesting anymore. Here's a thought, how about a followup to AVP that saw the end of the world and it's a Mad Max styled society fighting Predators and Aliens.

I liked Brody better than expected and it was rated R at least. But the movie felt tired. People act like Brody just walked off the set of The Pianist, but he was jacked in that movie. I agree, the problem was the story, which felt like a stale rehash of the original mixed with things from AVP. I'm actually looking forward to this one, though I'm preparing for a more light-hearted movie considering the casting and Shane Black's style. But the original also had a lot of funny moments, so maybe it'll work.

I really do hope so. I love the Predator franchise and Shane Black is a fantastic writer/director.

I will go in (when it eventually finds it way to DVDs) and maybe, just maybe then give it a chance. But for every little update, my small hopes (for a pleasant surprise) keep on getting smaller. My dream "Predator" film would be to bring back Dutch (Arnie), have a great plot/film surrounding him now as a veteran who must come out of "hiding" and maybe go a bit the same route as the John Rambo film (2008). Violent, gritty but still somehow loyal to the first film in use of location and not to show too much all the time and then cut out all the bullshit with several, now also possible (super) Predators and all that, and another important thing, no kids. Will of course never happen but one can dream though.

I'll most likely see it, but the more read about it, the less excited I get. "Predators" wasn't bad, but it sure was underwhelming.

I guess this kid was not annoying enough (seems like a horror "rule" if the kid is annoying as hell, he can be disposable).

Predators was absolutely tremendous.
7/10. Fun ride with great characters that paid homage to the original.

I didn't like "Predators" that much, but it swung for the fences at least. It was a very well made movie as well. Brody only bothered me with his voice. He's fine as an actor and I liked him shredded going against how he's normally cast, but the voice was a little try-hard for me. Laurence Fishburne's character was sort of wasted (I thought his would have been the most interesting perspective in that story), but I did appreciate faithful and adventurous additions to the mythos.
Robert Rodriguez's original script, which is easy to find from a google search, is way out there. Reminds me of the wooden planet debacle surrounding "Alien 3."
In terms of "The Predator," I'm definitely going to see it. Big enough fan of the first two that I have to roll the dice...even though I've been burned by the AvP movies ("Predators" isn't my cup of tea, but I appreciated the effort). Also, Shane Black's involvement has me looking on the bright side. What I've read of the casting seems a little strange, but sometimes strange turns out to be awesome. Crossing my fingers, but unfortunately I think the 'Predator' franchise is in a tough position to remain fresh while not relying too heavily on callbacks and nostalgia.
I really hope I'm wrong though...

The predator doesn't look too imposing in this screen capture.

Thought Predators was a serious letdown myself. Was especially unimpressed that they felt the need to introduce a "super Predator", which served no purpose whatsoever.
I haven't heard a whole lot about The Predator. Olivia Munn is in it, which is a plus for me as she's awesome. That's about all I know of it, though.
I hope they're not going to do another "government attempts to capture a Predator" story, i.e. a rehash of Predator 2.

It would be good if they cast Ice Cube in this as a bit of an in-joke.

I hope they're not going to do another "government attempts to capture a Predator" story, i.e. a rehash of Predator 2. Olivia Munn has been awful in every movie I've seen. There was that horror movie where she played the protagonist cop's wife, and she had this hideous accent that I think was supposed to be Brooklyn or Queens, but sounded somehow Australian. Then she was in X-Men as Psylock and all she did was grunt and pose, until finally she had a line and it was like a record screeching to a halt. As for The Predator, I did not realize they were just remaking the original movie. WHY would anyone do that? Jessie Ventura, Sonny Landham, Bill Duke...they were all awesome. Plus you know this line is never going to make it into the remake: "Bunch of slack jawed-faggots around here! This stuff will make you a god damn sexual Tyrannosaurus! Just like me."

The trailer wasn't as bad as I had kind of expected it to be, but still it do have the looks of yet another mediocre/forgettable movie which I might pick up if I find it lying around for the price of absolutely nothing on DVD. Then maybe, just maybe I will give it a go.

PREDATOR was an action sci-fi movie with elements that lent themselves to world-building. However, it was also a horror movie that relied on hiding the villain. Whenever we saw him, he wore a mask. We didn't see his face until the last part. How do you make a sequel that expands the mythology but also keeps the element of surprise? I think all you need is the right atmosphere, something THE PREDATOR fails to get right even from the very beginning. It's a sequence that was written, filmed and scored like a space opera (that would be fine if the rest of the movie was like that, but it isn't). The title character doesn't get a visual introduction; he's just... there. No, I'm not being so harsh just because PREDATORS set the bar so high with its opening. While I never felt any of the main characters in this franchise were complex or compelling, this was the first installment where I was rooting against the heroes. The comedic dialogue is unfunny and even kind of dumb, which shocked me considering this was co-written and directed by Shane Black. Speaking of, this movie, just like KISS KISS BANG BANG and THE NICE GUYS, shows moments of violence and/or pain in a nonchalant way. The difference is that those 2 movies did it for laughs, while this one seems to be serious about it. It comes off as awkward (especially when a certain character on top a bus falls down), just like the editing in some scenes. 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
