I'm on episode 10. At the beginning, we see MACY explaining things to GALVIN... a day after he saw what happened to HARRY. Ummm... OK? And then she shows him her powers. Doesn't that count as personal gain?
NIKO's cameo doesn't feel like a surprise because he opening credits list Ellen Tamaki (which is why I'm not using spoiler tags).

I missed the first episode back from the break, so I didn't get to see how they freed Harry (and I read that he and Maggie spent some quality time together in Tartarus - I'm annoyed I missed that, as I would've liked to have seen them interact one-on-one more). I caught the episode after that, though now the TV station which was airing it here has yanked it off and I don't know if they'll even bother showing the rest or not.

I'm on episode 11. The first couple of episodes showed that MAGGIE wasn't as feminist as MEL... but it's still weird to see her, LUCY and EFFIE accept MR. MIRANDA's drinks without even one of them considering that there could be drugs in them. And later, there's a scene where MEL stops a guy from roofing a girl in a bar!

I caught tonight's episode. Not impressed. Granted, I've only seen one episode, but the characters didn't seem very strongly drawn. But the main problem was that the story was not really challenging in any way. I don't see what the new series brings to the table beyond the original; it just seems a slight update for the Instagram generation. Certainly not the challenging, next generation level stuff that is going on in "The Magicians."

I caught tonight's episode. You mean episode 13? I just saw it. When it started, I thought that Shiri Appleby was the one playing CHLOE. Why did CALVIN and his grandma speak in Créole when MACY was in the room, but in English when they were alone? Shouldn't it have been the other way around? I've only seen one episode Why did you start here instead of episode 1? Certainly not the challenging, next generation level stuff that is going on in "The Magicians. I've never seen it, so I can't compare.

I know you can't generally judge a show on the basis of one episode, since it was probably a "filler" episode especially. But it didn't knock me out.

**a few minor spoilers below**
While I fully acknowledge this show has quite a few 'issues', I'm actually still enjoying it for the most part. I'm not missing Galvin at all (he wasn't particularly interesting. Jada, on the other hand, is a good addition to the show. I prefer her to Mel's first love interest), though I am annoyed I missed the episode that dealt with how Harry got out of Tartarus.
Maggie is still my favourite, and I'm enjoying the fact that the show's embracing its ridiculousness - the literal manic pixie girl, the TV shows angels, and the episode I watched this week with Maggie and Mel switching bodies. While I do agree it was probably a bit early in the series to be doing that (you typically expect that sort of episode to happen once the actors have really gotten used to their own roles before they're playing each other's), I thought both actresses did a pretty good job of playing the other one's role (though Maggie-in-Mel's body was perhaps a little too overdone to begin with, by the end I was enjoying both portrayals). At least it's fun to watch - which is more than I can say for certain other shows I watch on TV (which is why I'm mainly sticking to my backlog of DVDs/Blu-rays that I have yet to watch). So long as I can find it 'fun' and get some enjoyment out of watching it, that's all that really matters to me.

According to the Hollywood Reporter;
"the CW TV show will have new showrunners and a new creative direction for season two."
Let's hope it's an improvement.

I'm on episode 19. When NIKO sees MEL's time-freezing powers, she says "I could take my clothes off and no one here would notice."
That's it. No analysis. It was just a weird line I wanted to point out. Seriously, who would say that in a situation like that?

According to the Hollywood Reporter; "the CW TV show will have new showrunners and a new creative direction for season two." Let's hope it's an improvement. While it certainly wasn't a 'strong' first season, there were moments here and there that I enjoyed and even the odd episode which I thought was fairly good. Mostly, though, I watched for the main characters (Sarah Jeffery as Maggie in particular, as I thought she was the most likeable of the three). I'm hoping Season 2 will cut out the 'dead weight' (ie. the love interests) and focus more on the 'Power of Three'/sisterly relationship. Hopefully the new showrunners will also move the storylines along at a better pace and plan things out properly before starting. I stuck with the show (despite missing one episode, which was annoying), so I'll most likely check out Season 2...assuming it even airs on TV here, that is.

I finished season 1. I can't say exactly when (it must've been somewhere around episodes 14 and 18), but this remake has become a standard and kind of unmemorable fantasy show. Not really bad, but not really good either. Say what you will about the original show, but it was more unique. It wasn't just about the fight against evil; it focused a lot on the sisters trying to balance their daily lives with their duties as witches. That's not present here anymore. There are moments of humour, but it's not self-aware anymore. That was a key element in the original. It made me suspend my disbelief no matter how ridiculous the mythology could get. There's nothing I love more in television that an episode that brings back guest characters from different episodes. Yet, the cameos in the season finale didn't make me feel anything, because I only remembered 1 character. Again, an unmemorable show. I'm on episode 9. Did I miss something? Is this meant to be a mini-series? They haven't even finished their 1st season and they've already completed a lot of arcs from the original show. Well, the season finale reminded of the original's series finale with all the jumping around timelines/realities.

Not really bad, but not really good either. I just finished season 2, and those issues got worse. This is the rare show where I truly need the "Previously on" segments, because of how forgettable each episode is. I feel nothing but indifference towards the story and the characters. And then there's the CW visual style. You know: Using blue, green or brown filters in every scene and making all the characters wear dark-colored clothes, even though it won't really create an atmosphere since dark colors need a contrast in order to stand out. It didn't feel like this style was used in season 1. At least not that much. Now, it has truly become a butt-ugly show.

Season 2 finally started airing on TV here tonight (I thought we were never going to get it). **spoilers below** I'd vaguely recalled that the show was going to get new showrunners back when Season 1 ended. I guess like most new showrunners, their way of 'fixing' any problems with a show is to ditch most of what came before - hence the Charmed Ones are now in Seattle (after having done some portal-hopping), the Book of Shadows is kaput (I see some people are pretty upset about that, but like with the original Charmed series...I have no attachment to it, so therefore don't really care that much. Plus, I imagine it'll come back in some form or another), the sisters lost their powers but Macy retains some of her 'darker' power (like the Book of Shadows, I'm guessing their powers will return in time - not much point being witches without powers after all) and most significantly...all the Whitelighters have apparently been offed including Harry who seemingly got offed by a mysterious assassin that now has his face and has assumed his identity (I figured that's what must've happened as soon as we saw him get stabbed and then he turned up later to act all creepy towards Macy...which apparently she 'liked'). So it appears it's out with (most of) the old and in with the new for a fresh start (except for the house, which is conveniently connected with the sisters and made the jump too). Most amusing moment in the episode, for me, was Mel trying to use her powers and a random dude thinking she was waiting for someone to high-five her back. With shows overhauls like this, I usually take a wait-and-see approach in regards to whether things get 'better' or 'worse'. This isn't a great show by any stretch of the imagination. Hell, it's not even a 'good' one, but I like the characters of Macy, Mel, Maggie (still my fave) and Harry and appreciate a show with a smaller main cast (as so many shows these days have large casts, it seems). Plus, I like the actresses who portray them, so that helps. I've grown to like Harry to (whereas I wasn't that fussed on him when the show began), though could they quit making it seem like he's been killed off all the time? It gets old. Anyway, I'm surprised with myself at how much I got into this show, since I never liked the original series.
