So I guess super speed runs in the family! But why turn Iris into a speedster when all they need to do is pick up the phone and call Wally. I would love to see Wally in The Flash suit, making everyone think he's still out there while Barry is in jail.

They speculate in this article that it could be a doppelganger from another Earth; or that it could be their way of introducing the concept of Barry (and other speedsters) having the ability to steal or share speed.
There was a storyline in the New 52 comics, where Iris briefly became a speedster, before it wore off. This was the same storyline that had one of Iris' brothers also become a speedster and go bad; becoming a new version of Zoom or Reverse Flash.
I think it's also possibly they'll reveal that Iris is pregnant, and she's drawing her powers from the child (or children, if they go the tornado twins route). This could explain how Barry could have a conversation with her at super speed during the trial, which they both marveled at being able to do. They could subsequently use Bart Allen's background, and say that the child (or twins) is aging too rapidly and has no control over their speed; and has to be put in the speed force to protect them while they find a cure. This in turn could lead to the mystery woman at Barry and Iris' wedding, who recently bought coffee for Harry and Cisco, who would turn out to be said child - or one of them.

Some good thoughts stargaze. This looks the most plausible solution and I like it a lot.

Oh Christ, is Cecile's "gestational meta powers" setting up Iris' own similar temporary speed powers?

Okay. Now I have an image of Iris standing still. Only to be dragged around by the infant in her womb running. Makes as much sene as anything else we have seen so far.

I knew this would eventually happen and I remember warning all of you Iris would get powers on the old 'Arrow' board. So I guess super speed runs in the family! But why turn Iris into a speedster when all they need to do is pick up the phone and call Wally. I would love to see Wally in The Flash suit, making everyone think he's still out there while Barry is in jail. 'Cause Wally only exists when the writers say he can, remember? Wally's absence from 'The Flash' this season while Barry has been in prison has been one of the biggest plot holes they have had in the 'Arrowverse' shows so far and unless he is out somewhere trying to find DeVoe or coming up with evidence to help Barry there is no reason why he is not there helping Team Flash now.

Iris is becoming a superhero too? Seriously? Who asked for this for Christmas because it wasn't on my list and we don't deserve this torture.
