Born January 27, 1759 in Salzberg, Austria. No, there is no Amadeus. (The entymology of “Gottlieb” carries the meaning of “loved by God.”) Mozart sometimes referred to himself in the French version as “Amadé” – but always sarcastically or jokingly.

The world would be so much poorer without him.

A belated happy Geburtstag: my late husband and I got to actually visit Mozart's Geburthaus in Salzburg. He was my husband's favorite composer and after listening to more of his work, Mozart eventually edged out my favorite, Bach, but Bach is still a close second.

I visited Mozart's place of birth, too, a long time ago. What a humble place to begin. I got a little souvenir Mozart doll also, but sadly lost it. I'd love to go back to Austria sometime. Bach can be difficult to listen to, Mozart is brilliant yet accessible.
