There's something about scary giant monsters coming out of the ocean.
Godzilla, Cloverfield, Pacific Rim for instance.
I'm excited for Pacific Rim 2.

Pacific Rim 2 will FLOP, just like Pacific Rim 1 did.

That's fine. Still excited for it. The first one was a blast. Giant robots vs giant monsters. I miss Jet Jaguar.

Pacific Rim 2 will FLOP, just like Pacific Rim 1 did. I had no idea it was a flop. How did it manage to get a sequel?

It's production budget was 190 million, and it brought in only 101 million into the domestic (US) box office. World-wide, it made over 400 million, but factoring in publicity and distribution, it's doubtful Pacific Rim made much money, if ANY money.
State-side, it was surprising that a big budget popcorn movie like Pacific Rim didn't slay them at the box-office. At the time, I remember reading that WB was very disappointed in the film. Not sure how they pulled off a sequel, but I doubt it has a high budget like the first.

That is because American audiences are fucking stupid. I think the first one was released the same weekend as Grownups 2. Guess which one made the better profit? It's a perfect illustration of the general hypocrisy from people who complain about the lack of originality but see the absolute worst shit while original movies fail. It's a miracle that they got a sequel at all.
