I know there's a thread elsewhere but we got our own board for Indiana Jones now. Considering the time that has passed since KotCS, it will most likely take place in the late 60s or early 70s; if they're gonna be exact with the timeline it would be 1969. Villains could Soviets again, or other commie foes like Maoist China or post-revolutionary Cuba. Or even the Vietcong. Or they just go with ex-Nazis like Darabont suggested.

Well speaking of ex-Nazis, this is right about when that wave of New Age mysticism seemed to merge with occult lore and paranormal pseudohistory. And sometimes they included theories that were also endorsed by Nazism such as the notion of an Aryan birthplac. Works like The Morning of the Magicians or Chariots of the Gods? plus the odd Masonic conspiracy theory such as Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution were all the rage at this time. Some of this even overlapped with the UFO/ancient astronauts craze. There was even this whole quasi-religious movement started up at the time that tied lost continents, UFOs, biblical history, and parapsychology with Hitler hero-worship. All of which, even though I found it just okay, makes KotCS more disappointing in retrospect because it could have been so much weirder than it wound up being.

They should adapt Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

They should adapt Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Yeah, keep up the new paranormal angle.

It just feels weird setting an Indiana Jones story in the late 60's or early 70's.
The original trilogy's settings (British Colonial-era India and pre-WWII battles with the Nazis) followed by Crystal Skull's race with the Soviets during the Roswell/alien craze made for some great historical backdrops. I feel like there's nothing in the latter half of the 20th century that works as well for a serial adventure story.

The Vietnam War complimented the King Kong mythos remarkably well in 'Skull Island'. And I loved that it played the Lost World tropes straight overall. Perhaps something in that vein?

Ford is too damn old. Sorry. I love Indy as much as the next guy but they should have been making these movies in the 90s.
I watched the new Blade Runner and Ford looked like an old man. He’s going to look ridiculous trading punches with guys a third his age.
They should just stop....but since they won’t....they need to recast Indy. Not only is Ford too old but Indy in the 60-70s is just going to kill the movie.

The villains don’t have to be a nationality or have some historically evil political ideology. In TOD they were just evil Indians, politics had nothing to do with it.

In TOD they were just evil Indians, politics had nothing to do with it. ToD takes place during the era of the British Raj and the Thuggees's resurgence (the villains of the film who were based off a real-life clan) was due to the British suppression.

That’s great but in the movie they’re just an evil cult. They’re not some world threatening army, or country, or ideology. Indiana Jones doesn’t have to fight Nazis or Communists every time we see him.

I do not want this. I want a reboot with a younger actor.
