Okay, here's the groundwork: From TFA and TLJ we know that Snoke was Kylo's master and he at least partially trained him... (at the end of TFA Snoke says it's time that Kylo finish/complete his training). We know from TLJ that Kylo was an apprentice at Luke's Jedi academy... (Sorry TFA defenders who claimed that Kylo could've been a student interview of Luke and a rejection - the implication being he received virtually no training and didn't have an advantage over Rey in that department. You know who you are).
So here's the question: Since Rey had no training and Luke had cut himself off from the Force for a decade and a half, how is it that Kylo Ren (who has had more training than either one over the past decade) a constant loser to Rey and Luke? How do you explain that?

Second are you talking about Rey defeating kylo once in a lightsaber duel in TFA where he is badly wounded and she is prolific in staff battle, like she knows how to fight with a stick. It's what kept her alive in jakku. It's not a stretch that she knows a thing or two about combat. As for Luke, when did they actually meet? Oh, when kylo defeated him and destroyed the academy. Yeah Luke has the upper hand always *sigh* Or are you talking about when kylo subdued Rey, entered her mind? Or when kylo convinced her to come to her. Or when kylo destroyed her saber? How do you explain some people aptitude to be great drivers, artists, musicians, players even at young ages before training? She's a natural. She needs training understanding and controlling it not to tap into the force. She's using her instincts but doesn't know how she is doing it. It's explained in the movie. Go see it instead of reminiscing on things that are already explained.

How was Rey able to, in TLJ, battle with those red guys? She looked like a trained fighter, not someone using her instincts. Instinct doesn't give you skill or experience. She had zero training. Don't gloss over, explain or admit that it's garbage mary sue/wish fulfillment writing.

She is a prolific fighter trained in combat and although i concede sword and stick are very differen't i also stated that amongst the surreal stuff happening in all the movies is not a stretch of the imagination that she would pick up rather quickly combat with other arms. Not to mention we don't know what she trained in Jakku until sticking with a, well, stick. I can't believe i'm going to say this but i miss arguing with the untouchable @winterssuicide. His minions just don't have what it takes...

No, go back, watch the scene, turn your brain on, and then come back and answer the question. She's not trained, we saw one scene where she defended herself against unarmed thugs of visibly low combat skill.
It is absolutely a stretch of the imagination given what comes before and the universe the movie is set in. She is the first example of someone good at everything despite her situation suggesting she should not only be socially ill-developed, but also malnourished and less capable.
You haven't proved any points. I've linked to the sabre battle multiple times, and I don't feel like doing it again. Go watch their fight. Kylo is unencumbered by his injuries. He moves just fine, he bests Rey, toying with her, she is defeated until she downloads the force, and suddenly she knows how to attack with the weapon she's never used before. It's a fairly quick scene, go check it out.

So here's the question: Since Rey had no training and Luke had cut himself off from the Force for a decade and a half, how is it that Kylo Ren (who has had more training than either one over the past decade) a constant loser to Rey and Luke? How do you explain that? First of all I'm not anti PT. I'm Pro pt, always was always will be. Second are you talking about Rey defeating kylo once in a lightsaber duel in TFA where he is badly wounded and she is prolific in staff battle, like she knows how to fight with a stick. It's what kept her alive in jakku. It's not a stretch that she knows a thing or two about combat. Yes... I heard this defense before 10 dozen times. "Rey is prolific with the bo-staff. She fought with it all of her life on Jakku. We saw how skilled she was when she defeated Plutt's thugs and apprehended Finn, thinking he was a jacket thief." Here's the problem with that defense. It leads to another (relevant) question: If Rey is so proficient with the staff and has so much experience, why does she spend the entire time before her Force download running like a frightened rabbit on crack? Why is most of her moves sloppy attempts at blocking defense? Why do the 2 or 3 offensive attempts of Rey look like clumsy pokes you would expect from her allegedly drunken parents? Why is that Mr. "I've only been trained in blasters!" Finn able to press an attack against Kylo and even land a blow on Kylo... while Ms. "spent half her life wielding a bo-staff" Rey couldn't do either? Please answer those questions! Until you provide competent answers to the questions I just mentioned, my opening question still stands... Well that is a good point, but from the looks of what happened onscreen there wasn't a lightsaber battle between them. It looked as if Kylo awoke panicked and unleashed some kind of Force storm that subdued Luke and buried him under a pile of rubble from destroyed houses/buildings. And Kylo believed Luke to be dead. Additionally Luke yelled "NO KYLO, DON'T!" (or something to that effect) when Kylo started to attack - so Luke was more pleading with Kylo to disarm his attack than focused on engaging him in a duel. And as soon as untrained Rey entered into Kylo's mind back, he lost so badly he ran out of the room like a child frightened by the boogeyman looking for protection from his daddy. LOL! So the point of my initial question still stands... I'm not sure what scene you're referring to here? They both destroyed that lightsaber from simultaneously Force pulling on it. Accidentally on their part, if I recall. That's what we were left to conclude with no exposition in TFA. We finally get some brief exposition from Luke in TLJ. When Luke gives Rey her (one and only) training session in the Force he says "I've only seen that kind of raw power once before! It didn't scare me then! It does now!" So master Luke qualifies Rey is having power he's only seen once before... so I guess you're right. Oh... wait a minute... who was the raw power Luke had only seen once before?... Was it... Kylo?!? So Kylo has raw power equal to or close to Rey's level - and he's also had training from 2 masters! One on the Lightside (Luke) and one on the Darkside (Snoke). My initial question still stands... Does she need training?!?... In fact, there's so much confusing exposition around that question that I'm going to post a future thread about it. It would get too off topic trying to expand on it here. Refer back to the points I just made. Then try to answer the question again, but taking into consideration the exposition that I just gave you.

Also you never see Luke being trained with lightsabers, unless some remote action is training enough, and i am made to believe he can confront Vader and actually wound him? Stretchs of imagination are part of SW since the beggining. Did he train very hard between ANH and ESB, very very hard? Rey from TFA would obliterate Luke from ESB in a heartbeat. She had to survive for years and years. She stumbled in the beggining because she was caught by surprise by all what's happening around her. The force download it's called focus. And Finn striking was proof that Kylo was puttting up an act and was actually more injured than he let on. Everything explained good grief... My point still stands, they never met in a lightsaber duel, and when they did meet (even without lightsaber fight) Kylo bested him. And as soon as untrained Rey entered into Kylo's mind back, he lost so badly he ran out of the room like a child frightened by the boogeyman looking for protection from his daddy. LOL! So the point of my initial question still stands... When he tricks her, like he tricked Snoke in hiding his true intentions and making her come to him for redemption, wich he never intended. It takes some skill to mask one's intentions in the Force. He bested her in the mind game. I concede this one, but it wasn't like she was making it look easy, that's the point. Sure, and that double training is his greatest weakness. He is conflicted, he never unleashes his true potential because of it. Snoke says it, You see it when he fails to kill Leia, what more do you want? And he's an interesting character because of it. Yes, she needs training. There is no debate. But unlike Luke's training where he had trouble tapping into the force, she needs training in understanding it. But yes some training is required or she will be tempted by the dark side like she was n the movie (i really don't know what's to understand here) She only gets a few lessons from Luke but she still needs additional training, on her own, with the books, force ghost, whatever. She neeeds it. She barely escaped Snoke, if not for Kylo saving her at the last minute. Hope you are satisfied! Always glad to help.

So, no, the skill is not there. You're not making sense.

See the answer to Ryboto. The difference is the passage of time. Luke was given guidance, and we see he at the VERY least had access to the training stun ball thing. So, right there, he's got an edge over Rey. Not a stretch, a logical leap. That's the friggin difference. Lucas provided exposition that made these logic leaps work and seem organic to our suspension of disbelief. Rey wouldn't obliterate Luke. Take away her stick, which she uses clunkily, and Luke has the weight advantage. Neither of them is an experienced fighter. Though, Luke SHOULD be a better pilot, but as we see with her stunt in the Falcon, she's got him tied there already and she'd never flown it before! She stumbled in the beggining because she was caught by surprise by all what's happening around her. The force download it's called focus. She didn't stumble, she was inexperienced. She lacks the skill. Then JJ decides the force can supersede skill and logic, and so she gets skill from a single word, and miraculously, conveniently, Kylo forgets all of his skill and his focus at the same time. When he tricks her, like he tricked Snoke in hiding his true intentions and making her come to him for redemption, wich he never intended. It takes some skill to mask one's intentions in the Force. He bested her in the mind game. But then she bests him immediately following... I concede this one, but it wasn't like she was making it look easy, that's the point. The implication, is that without the level of training Kylo has, she's able to match him in not only the force, but with use of a lightsabre. Sure, and that double training is his greatest weakness. No, that's utterly your interpretation. You can't have it both ways. You can't have him conflicted to make it convenient for your argument in one scene, then he can mind trick Snoke EASILY in another, showing his prowess in the force - which is a result of ALL of his training. His inner emotional conflict simply makes his decisions sloppy. What suggests she needs it? She was given no instruction from Luke with a sabre, and she's fine, she lifted rocks, she's mind tricked, she's mind read....what the hell training does she need?! Where in the film is she shown as inept beyond that dumb fern-tickle scene? You're very confused about what you saw, which is why this is difficult. The writing is bad, and that's why in one scene she's capable, and in another, Snoke is obviously her superior, as is Kylo...then in the next, she's on Kylo's level....so if she's on his level, she could have bested Snoke? See how awful and inconsistent it is?

Stretchs of imagination are part of SW since the beggining. Did he train very hard between ANH and ESB, very very hard? Rey from TFA would obliterate Luke from ESB in a heartbeat. She had to survive for years and years. I thought she did alright on Jakku, not clunky at all. Sure take away her clothes and she would be naked. I concede the flying the falcon stuff. a bit Over the top. BUT that's a freighter not a fighter. Luke should best her in a fighter, but she never uses one. I don't know if she has the same apptitude to adapt to controls as she has to wepons. She stumbled in the beggining because she was caught by surprise by all what's happening around her. The force download it's called focus. Already addressed, i'm not going to answer in circles. When he tricks her, like he tricked Snoke in hiding his true intentions and making her come to him for redemption, wich he never intended. It takes some skill to mask one's intentions in the Force. He bested her in the mind game. When? I concede this one, but it wasn't like she was making it look easy, that's the point. There's no implication. Lighsaber skills and force raw power are two very different things. She has raw power to defy him, and if handicapped she has enough knwoledge of armed combat to best him also, with force focus. Sure, and that double training is his greatest weakness. YES. He is sloppy because he is conflicted, thus he makes mistakes, and he is conflicted because he was taught two very different things. it has nothing to do with his prowess with the force. It's his decisions that are hesitant. Well, she must learn force projection, force ghost, force lightning (if trainined by the dark side), Force Jump, Force Speed, force push, force pull. And above all she needs to learn what it all means. She has the potential to best snoke yet he treats her like a toy, untill Kylo saves her. She needs training to be a master like snoke, luke or even Kylo if he wasn't torn between two truths. Capable of what? Of acting by instinct and blowing stuff up? yes, but she lacks control. She's on Kylo's level on raw power alone. Both movies show that. And no she couldn't have beste snoke. Snoke was defeated by mastery of the force that Kylo has and she clearly dosen't. The rocks at the end are the first non instintive or mimetic force power she uses. First steps.

How long did Luke have to train before he was able to defeat DARTH VADER who had trained since childhood? And Vader wasn't gut shot at the time either. The idea that being shot in the gut had no effect on Kylo's ability to fight or focus the force is ludicrous. Rey had fighting experience and had developed valuable instincts and skills because she had to survive on her own her whole life. When she was with Luke she lifted rocks with her mind just like Luke did with Yoda. She just didn't go jogging with a puppet on her back.
I love the OT, the PT, and the ST (so far).

This is totally off-topic, but, speaking of finishing Kylo's training, I thought the scenes in TLJ of Snoke training Kylo were some of the best scenes I didn't see in TLJ.
Thanks again, RJ! Instead of showing cool scenes with Snoke and Kylo sabering against each other (in which the previous lore would have been paid off, not to mention giving even the slightest crumb of validity to the argument of how Kylo lost to Rey, not to mention just how cool it would have looked, wait, I did mention that), we got a cliche scene of Reylo beating up some no name/ no face bots. WAY TO THINK IT THROUGH writing team!

Also off topic, Waxer and Ryboto, I find it hilarious that you are being called my minions when:
1.) we vehemently disagreed for almost two years and have only begun to agree for the last month 2.) it was I who changed my position to your position(s). If anyone is the minion, it is me!
