I didn't realize that this laid a box office egg. I watched it on laserdisc when it came out that way, from a rental place. Tremors

geodeThanks for that link... great article. I don't usually care for "monster movies" BUT this one was brought up for discussion and recommended by some IMDb buddies ... and so I got ahold of the Tremors 1-4 disk from the local library and LOVED all four. The characters are introduced to the viewer before the action gets started so we actually know who they are and care when they are endangered by those Marvelously VERY NASTY critters ! The dialogue is genuinely funny ! There is no attempt to explain what the beast are .. they just ARE ! The sequels work because the story line is faithfully carried from one to the next.
IMO, it really needs to be found and watched and enjoyed by more people. Thanks Lebowskidoo 🦞 and Doghouse6 for your recommends.

I liked it, but haven't seen it now in about 27 years and haven't watched sequels. According to Wikipedia it was a modest hit, which is borne out by the numbers cited by IMDb of over a $48 million gross for an $11 million budget. Apparently another installment in the franchise is coming out in May.

geodeIt was just 'FUN" and as such, the sequels worked for me. As I said, I don't usually care for movies like this but they were well made and .... there it is again ... FUN. Scary too. Those monsters were really frightening. They evolve and changed through the set of four pictures

Watched the entire movie series last year, all of the sequels offer something to enjoy, rare for direct-to-video sequels. Now we wait for Tremors 6...oops! Looks like the wait is over, it should be in stores now.

There's a new one? I haven't even seen Tremors 5 yet.
The original is a classic, well worth 8/10 at least. Tremors 2 is okayish. Tremors 3 however felt really tired. Tremors 4, the prequel, is my second favorite of the series. I just wish they would have spent more money on it, since it sure does look cheap.

ReynardSaw them all recently and none looked "cheap", imo. These are straight to video movies NOT multi-million-$$$$-fill-the-multi-plex productions ! Why bother comparing things that are irrelevant. The stories, characters, monsters WORK and that should be the bottom line. More $$$$ spent is often the very reason that the BIG movies fail to do anything more than overwhelm with the BIG STUFF ! .
For me, the pre-quell was great fun and totally in the spirit of the others.

Good cinematography doesn't require much money, so there's no reason for failing at that. Mediocre special effects I can understand, especially since Tremors 2 and 3 were made during the earlier days of CGI. What I can't understand is why the creatures in Tremors 3 look worse than the ones in part 2. However the real reason that I did not care about part 3 is that the script was just more of the same, with increasingly forced "evolution" of monsters tp keep it fresh, sort of like what was done with Jurassic Park 3.
Ideally Tremors 4 would have been made as a theatrical film instead of straight-to-VHS since the script certainly was good enough for that - easily the best since the original. Instead they went the easy way and more or less wasted a great idea (Wild West prequel) on a cheapie instead of doing it in a way that could have revived the series.

I love this whole series. I think Tremors 2 is the best one. It was the one that went most over the top. The TV series was great too. I am hyped for Tremors 6.

@snakeeyes43 Thanks. I will see if the library has #5. I was just so happy to find any of them because some people whose reviews I respect had recommended them. I plan on buying the 1-4 disk if I ever locate it for actual sale ! I much prefer character introduction and development and good dialogue over things blowing up ! Am odd that way !

As a geologist I find movies that have earth scientists in them to be interesting. The first in this series had one in an important role. How about the sequels? Earth scientist in Tremors.

Great fun and the creatures were cool. I need to catch up on the rest of this series, as I only seen the first two so far.

Well the teaser dropped for part 6. Egh? Sigh. Looks morelike a Syfy original. Nice blue filter over everything too. Props to Michael Gross for not aging. He doesn't look like a man in his 70s.
