For example, HER ("A man falls in love with a computer") and SWISS ARMY MAN ("A man is stuck on an island with a farting corpse and they become friends").

"Demon Seed" with Julie Christy - about a lady impregnated by an intelligent super computer and the offspring is half human and half computer. The computer is "voiced" by Robert Vaughn.

The Gods Must Be Crazy. A primitive African tribesman is hit on the head by a discarded Coca Cola bottle thrown from an airplane, and he believes it is a strange gift from the gods.

Hijack a New York subway train? Ridiculous. Nonetheless, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is a good film. I've only seen the one with Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau.

Okay, you find twelve vicious convicts and in a matter of a few months turn them into a cohesive, disciplined, effective commando unit, then you parachute them in on a Wehrmacht chateau-brothel the night before D-Day. Makes sense!

Lots of good picks so far. I'll add MY BODYGUARD, which has touches of reality added to usual formula. The way it's done is very good, though.

Bubba Ho Tep
An aging, arthritic, impotent Elvis Presley is in an old people's home with a black wheelchair bound JFK. The guy that died on the john was an Elvis Impersonator that swapped places with the real jaded Elvis, who subsequently lost his fortune and a few marbles in a caravan explosion. A life-sucking Red-Indian ghost/spirit thing is killing the old people in the home. Elvis and JFK to the rescue. Brilliant film.

The Lost Continent: This film starts out like the Love Boat on acid, as a cast of varied characters, with various issues, take Captain Eric Porter's leaky cargo ship to escape their troubles. When a violent storm strikes, the ship is swept into the Sargasso Sea and our heroes find themselves trapped on an island of man-eating seaweed, populated by giant monster crabs and some Spanish conquistadors who think the Inquisition is still on. Features songs and music by '60s "cool group", the Peddlers.

An insomniac who can only sleep by hanging out at testicle cancer support groups teams up with a soap salesman to start an underground fighting ring which the soap salesman then uses to start a cult because he's actually a terrorist.
