Pitch Black (2000) The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) Riddick (2013)
Odd, but mostly enjoyable series. 'Pitch Black' was an unexpected pleasure; a tense, taut sci-fi-horror/survival movie. 'Chronicles' transposed the anti-hero Riddick into the space-fantasy/space-opera genre, with interesting results. 'Riddick' returned the title character to his man-against-nature roots. From favorite to least, I would rank them in the order listed above.

I recently bought the box set so I need to see them all again but from what I remember I'd probably rank them the same as you have.
I do remember the beginning sequence of Chronicles was really awesome with the planet being invaded.
I actually like all three films quite a bit but I agree Pitch Black was the best overall.

Only seen two of them, I remember hearing so much good stuff been said about the first film and that Vin Diesel was about to become the new huge action movie star following the giant footsteps of Sly and Arnie, however I thought Pitch Black was a huge letdown, rating it a 3/10 the first time I saw it. Re-watched it for the second time back in 2013, still even close to being impressed but I gave it "generous" 4/10 rating that time. Saw Riddick (2013) around the same time, thought it was a little more "enjoyable" but also that one got a 4/10. Will probably not bother with the rest of the series.

Only saw Chronicles of Riddick and gave it 3/10. Weirdly refreshing and stylish mashup of science fantasy and action/adventure genres aside, I found it dull. Meant to see Riddick when it was released but never got around to it.

'Chronicles' is pretty much completely unlike 'Pitch Black' and 'Riddick,' except for the main character, so if you've only seen the "meat" or only the "bread" installations of this trilogy (if you'll allow the sandwich analogy here), you might keep that in mind when deciding if you want to proceed. On the other hand, if you really dislike what you've seen so far, you might not want to bother.

Pitch Black - 8/10. A very enjoyable mix of Alien, The Thing and other creature movies. I like the ensemble cast and the sci-fi/horror elements still hold up.
Chronicles of Riddick (Director's Cut) - 7/10. This is the only version I've seen, but I've heard it's a more complete film than the theatrical version. While the film is a bit flawed, I admire its attempts to be a sci-fi Conan mixed with Dune and it's an ambitious sequel that deserves more credit.
Riddick - 5/10. I like the first act when Riddick's isolated on the planet with only a space dog (or hyena?), but the rest of the film is just a bland retread of the original with new monsters. Riddick was more interesting as a flawed anti-hero surrounded by an ensemble cast. Here he's just a boring action hero who's able to disappear and kill everyone with ease. The final battle is just them fighting more of the monsters from the beginning? They could have had him fight a giant monster or something at the end!

Can't even remember how many of these I've seen. I might give it another try, but Vin Diesel.

Only seen the first. Was ok. Mainly remember it for the unusual aliens and the giant alien skeletons (nice shot).
