Thought this was the sequel to “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”? I know of at least one woman who did! 😆

I couldn't imagine. It reminds me more of that song by Aqua of the same name.

I'd say the merest cursory investigation would reveal that it is not.

Most overrated Horror movie ever! I still think that honor goes to “The Shining”.

Overrated? I’d say it’s horribly underrated.

Thought this was the sequel to “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”? I know of at least one woman who did! 😆 I bet she was surprised! I just knew beforehand that Clive Barker was not likely to have anything to do with Willy Wonka.

I just knew beforehand that Clive Barker was not likely to have anything to do with Willy Wonka. She's not a horror fan and after she saw it, she told me "This was a horror movie!" I told her "No shit! Did you think it was a sequel to 'Willy Wonka'?' Then she had that look and said "Wellll..." and that was when I knew and laughed hysterically!

Nope-I knew about the film from magazines so I knew it was a horror film.
Overall I liked the film though even back in 92 I was wondering about the race-mixing subplot about how Candyman came to be. It felt forced.
I think it would have been scarier if it looked more low budget and shadowy. Horror films that look like there are 50 people in the room behind the camera dont scare me as much as the lower budget ones.
Great ending though.
The director is still making films--he switched to microbudget ones.

Most overrated Horror movie ever! I agree that it's overrated, maybe not the 'most overrated' but overrated nonetheless.

Most overrated Horror movie ever! I agree that it's overrated, maybe not the 'most overrated' but overrated nonetheless. I like first two thirds of Candyman well, but it does lose its way towards the end. I wish the final act would work better, since I appreciate the ambition of making a it increasingly delirious instead of going for some kind of cheap, obvious explanation. However it just doesn't work that well as far as visual storytelling goes. I think that Candyman got exceedingly good review at the time at least in part ecause it was released during the 90s dry season of horror genre.
