You're welcome. Yeah. 'Halloween H20' was the better movie out of the two of them in my opinion and I liked the new movie and am interested in seeing what they do in the sequel with Tommy and Lindsey returning and am hoping they don't bring them back just to kill them off at the start of the movie 'cause that would be disappointing but I liked a lot of the things they took out like Michael and Laurie being siblings and felt it took away from Michael Myers and the story getting rid of that part 'cause it made it far more personal and we have had a heap of slasher movies where a masked maniac chases a person around trying to kill them but none where the killer was their brother not to mention the fact he was possessed by evil and the new movie took away the supernatural elements. That being said I actually liked the original timeline the most in the 'Halloween' movies. I was disappointed over what they did in 6 even though I didn't hate the movie but 'Halloween 1, 2, 4 and 5' were my favs and I liked Donald Pleasance as Dr Loomis and the 'Halloween' movies just don't feel the same without him trying to stop Michael and telling everybody he is evil.
I liked Jaime too and I wish they had kept her alive so they could have made a sequel with her when she was grownup and we will never see it now but it would have been fun to have had a movie with Jaime and Laurie together and I am curious if we would have got to have seen Laurie and Dr Loomis together again in a movie if Donald lived 'cause I was reading an article about 6 a couple of days ago that talked about the alternate ending with Dr Loomis surviving and apparently the series was supposed to continue with Dr Loomis if Donald had lived longer and they could have made 'H20' but had Dr Loomis find out Laurie was still alive and come to warn her. 'H20' was originally meant to continue onto 6 and they cut the scenes which joined the movies together and there was one specific scene where Laurie hears about Jaime getting killed by Michael Myers and they show footage of 'Halloween 4 and 5' and Laurie cries and some might disagree but I think they should have kept the connection and just ignored parts of 6.
Hey there Deb it's great to see you here again !! I guess I'm in the minority here because I actually did like - because we also got to see character Tommy Doyle all grown up
also he and Dr. Sam Loomis became the heroes
of this intriguing storyline too
( IMPO - it does seem like at the same time a stand alone sequel in it's own way too
I do agree on the downside of this film
Jamie Lloyd's character was murdered by Myers
which was definitely a downer as well . I think it was to just end the Jamie Lloyd storyline
for the Laurie Strode storyline also . So for me the first set of Halloween films 1 through 7 are my favorites ( # 8. is starting to grow on me now ) but after these the remakes are just not my cup of tea at all here ( seen these once but never again since ) . Thanks so much again Deb for your wonderful reply here too . Hi mszanadu
It is nice to see you too. I have been kinda absent from the boards lately 'cause I have been busy with other things and sadly don't have the time I used to have to write on here but I try to post on the board when I can and it is always good to catch up with members like you when I can and I didn't hate 'Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers' to the extent some other people disliked it and we re-watch it when we watch the 'Halloween' series on DVD but I was mostly just disappointed with them killing off Jaime Lloyd at the start of the film like you when they seemed to have made her the main star in the previous two movies and I would have liked to have seen Jaime grow up and had more 'Halloween' movies with her when she was older just like what they were planning on doing with Carol Anne in the 'Poltergeist' movies before the actress sadly passed away. I heard Danielle Harris turned down coming back for the sixth movie when she found out her character was going to be killed off and she wasn't going to be in it much and I am not sure who come up with that idea but I think it was a mistake.
It was good seeing Tommy Doyle grownup though and I liked Paul Rudd in the role and wouldn't have minded seeing him return for another 'Halloween' movie since his character survived and I read he wasn't against coming back for another movie unlike Josh Harnett who turned down returning in the follow up to 'H20.' I think the worst movie in the franchise was 'Halloween Resurrection and that is the one we will skip when we re-watch it 'cause I didn't particularly like the characters or them killing off Laurie at the start and had they made it Laurie survived and come to try and save everybody near the end and died saving everybody it would have been slightly better but 'Resurrection' was a weak follow up for 'H20' when a sequel had so much potential. I have read 'Resurrection' was a completely re-written script from the original sequel they had in mind and I think it was supposed to follow up with Laurie's son becoming the lead and Michael still killing Laurie but going after him too but when the actor refused to return instead of replacing him with another actor they went in another direction and one that didn't work for many fans.
I didn't like the remakes either and I remember seeing the first one and thinking how many times they could say 'f' in it and I am no prude and swear but I recall nearly every second or third word being a swear word in that movie and I just thought that was really unneeded and complete overkill and I didn't like the changes they made. The only thing I liked about the remakes was they got Danielle Harris back and I thought Malcolm McDowell was okay but he just didn't feel the same in the role as Donald Pleasance and I don't think anybody can play the Dr Loomis role as good as Donald could 'cause he had a distinct way of playing it.
