Did anyone like the musical episode last season? I thought it was a fun episode. The only thing is they had Melissa Benoist singing "Moon River". But the episode has 4 references to The Wizard of Oz so it would've been better if they had Melissa Benoist sing "Over the Rainbow" instead.

I was rather disappointed, since there were hardly any songs, much less original songs; and the plot was too disjointed, with them bouncing back and forth between the fantasy setting and the real world. There simply wasn't enough time to develop either, so very little actually happened. They should have stuck to one place, especially since it featured many of the regular players from both shows.
I mean, Scrubs was only a half hour series and they packed so much more into their musical epiode; AND the songs were all original. And when you compare it to the likes of Buffy or the mother of musical episodes, Xena, I just don't think it held up well at all. More like a Glee episode of The Flash; which may or may not be a generous comparison, since I never actually watched Glee, but wouldn't be surprised if that's how a typical episode would go down, and of course the mutual alumni involved.
All in all, I'd rank it above the second Xena musical, Lyre, Lyre, but we'll behind most others. Maybe a close tie to the That 70s Show musical epiode, with a slight edge for The Flash for stronger vocal talent; yet even That 70s Show had more songs it seemed. I had to look up what other shows had done a musical epiode, and of the ones I've seen, I've mostly forgotten Psych and Community both did one; and while I don't recall much of either, I do remember liking Psych's quite a bit, and may have to look some of that up to refresh my memory. And I do remember enjoying how much Community ripped on Glee....

I didn't think it was that bad. It wasn't great or anywhere near as good as the musical episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' as stargazer1682 pointed out above but I was expecting it to be a lot worse than the episode we got so I was surprised it wasn't. I think it would have been funny if they had got more of the 'Arrow' cast to appear and I would have liked to have seen Oliver, Diggle and Thea join in. Oliver singing probably would have looked hilarious.

It was spectacular Darl. I liked the episode so much I tracked down the soundtrack and have been playing it every morning in my car on the way to work. Grant Gustin is an immensely talented singer and one day he is going to be bigger than Justin Beiber and One Direction combined.

Agreed 100%! Everything else was horrible, with the exception of Joe and Stein.

I still find it funny seeing Victor sing even though I saw him in 'Godspell' (which is one of my Aunt's favourite movies) when I was little 'cause I got so used to seeing him as Jack Bristow in 'Alias' and breaking out into song is something you would have never expected him to do in that show. It is like watching Keifer Sutherland's music videos and thinking of him as Jack Bauer.

Modern film musicals are not very good. Sometime in the 1960s they lost the knack of doing good musicals. But when they were on their game they turned out some of the best and most beloved films of all time. Like The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, and Mary Poppins.
Right now the only studio that continues to put out great musicals is Disney. To the point where people see animation and musicals as one and the same.

The last good one I can think of is 'Rent' and I am looking forward to seeing the movie of 'Wicked' even though I am dissappointed they are not getting Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth for it but I don't have high hopes for it 'cause most recent ones have been awful and animated movies seem to be the only exception.

Did you see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter? I really liked that.
