I would support him making a Star Wars movie and casting Michael B Jordan as A Sith after seeing him as Kilmonger could be a badass Jedi too. I'm surprised that you didn't suggest Kat Dennings for a role in Star Wars.

I'm not crazy about Donald Glover playing Lando. So far I don't see Lando in him. Not that he can't give a charismatic performance, but I'd rather he play someone new. yeah, weird, you are the first one to say that.
It's so strange that everybody engages in bandwagon Ehrenreich bashing already, but will praise the Lando portrayal to high heavens though we did not hear him utter a word.
Is it white guilt...? Is it because D Glover is a star unlike Ehrenreich....? Is it because nobody cares about Lando, but holds Ford-Han sacred...? Is it all of the above...?
Weird online dissing dynamic that. Poor kid Ehrenreich.
That's a good set of questions. Maybe white people in general care enough about Lando to think, "Yeah, Donald's a decent fit. It's not like Kevin Hart's playing him." Black people in general seem to respect Donald and have a lot of confidence that he can pull it off. I think many hardcore Star Wars fans, particularly white ones who see Han as a sacred ideal, aren't feeling that with Ehrenreich. And let's not forget that most of us, white and otherwise, didn't ask for this film to begin with! I would rather see a Star Wars film like the fan video below than Solo. So far I think the guys who played Lando and Han gave better performances.

I criticize Johnson's direction as far as making TLJ feel more like a Family Guy or Robot Chicken-style parody than a serious Star Wars film: - Poe's "your Mom" joke to General Hux - Luke casually tossing his lightsaber behind him after a dramatic 2 year build up - Space Leia - Snoke ignorantly "foreseeing" his death - Chewie roasting a porg (I honestly didn't expect to see that in a Disney Star Wars film!) - Luke drinking green titty milk - shirtless Kylo Ren - etc. A lot of this humor occurred during serious moments, which made it difficult for me to take this film seriously. I should've been laughing with it, not at it. That said, my main problem with these new Star Wars films lies with the writing. They rehash too much from the OT, the characters aren't well-written, and, at best, I often feel they only kind of get Star Wars. I'm glad Ryan Coogler's not directing IX. TLJ did Abrams no favors. That's why I preferred Coogler get his own standalone or trilogy.yup, some of the jokes were so bad they were laughable, and some of the writing was so bad it became a joke. I think it took away a lot of gravitas from a film in which the heros are actually reduced to a pitiful little band.
Though, while misplaced, I did not mind the jokes that much, likely because everybody was like "iz marvel humor, they finally ruined Star Wars". I went in expecting travesty like "Hahaha, I have famously huge turds", "Dance off, turd blossom bitch!" "I have senitive nipples", Look, I'm merry Poppins ya'all" or "Lets hide the Zucchini".
Yo momma was the only thing I cannot forgive,... and dancing Yoda on steroids - funny you did not mention that one.
Leia certainly acted like Mary Poppins. I didn't notice Yoda dancing. He looked high.

Disney promote their new Mary Poppins film in many their franchises, even SW and Marvel are not spared. Force stoned by cross marketing I am.

Where did they do it in Marvel, during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?

Where did they do it in Marvel, during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Yes, aka Raccoon Turd 2. Below a collection of some of the dialogue for your education.

I have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on my Netflix streaming queue. I'll be sure to look at this dialogue list when I watch it again.

Cheers.

Are you comparing the dialogue and general sophistication of HBO and Showtime shows to Guardians of the Galaxy movies? Dude, have some self-respect. Guardians movies are ostensibly light, fun entertainment with straightforward and occasionally hilarious dialogue; first movie missed the mark (for me), but the second one was pitch-perfect and really well done. But it's not The Sopranos. Innit? Yikes.

There's sophistication, but the T&A and cursing is just for the Hell of it.

There's sophistication, but the T&A and cursing is just for the Hell of it. Sure, that's fair. But it doesn't refute the fact that their content is generally more mature in tone (beyond just nudity and crass language) and complex in structure. Guardians 2, for instance, is very much the polar opposite of a very character-driven, longform show playing multiple literary and symbolic games simultaneously on multiple levels, a la True Detective season 1. And you know what? Both are great. I just don't see the need to force the comparison.

And frankly, I think what really made it interesting was how good Woody and Matthews' acting was rather than just the characters. And let's face it, Daddario baring all helped...a lot.

Those things helped, but at its core it was a sophisticated, sprawling, complex script that -- over eight hours or whatever the hell it ran for -- is pretty much inherently richer, more ambitious, and more complex than the average MCU movie. The MCU as a whole? Well, that's different.

Being stretched out over 8 hours made the story work.

The MCU as a whole? Well, that's different. Let's be fair here, if True Detective had been a 2 hour film it wouldn't have been all that memorable. Being stretched out over 8 hours made the story work. Well, in the same way that being stretched over two hours made the Guardians vol 2 story work, and if that ran 22 or 45 minutes it wouldn't have had the same time to set up a lot of the better jokes (Taserface, it's not ripe, etc.) or the more interesting character work that occurred between basically the entire team. Likewise the density and complexity and, more than anything, basic plotting of True Detective mandated that medium and that length. I don't even think you could get through all the shit that happens (in both "timelines," for lack of a better word) in that amount of time, let alone present the same textured story. Anyway, I get your point but I'm not sure (a) what it proves, (b) why you think it proves TD wasn't outstanding for what it was, and (c) why in your dichotomous mind everything deserves either Borg-like, mindless excuse-making devotion (Disney) or total dismissal (everything not_Disney). It's... weird, mang.

You'd rather we argue this back and forth, or leave it at us agreeing with one another on how TD and GOTG had their own ways of doing things that worked out best for the types of stories they told?
